Sisters are doing it for themselves

The 59th Inauguration this week has not disappointed. America breathed a sigh of relief at the peaceful transition of power. They also rejoiced at the stellar performances that crossed party lines and symbolized unity. The Bernie meme is hilarious, but other photos captured a subtle nod of recognition. The exchange between Michelle Obama and Kamala Harris is burning up the internet. These queens greeted each other in a matter of seconds, but it goes back to common courtesy. I am from Cleveland, and it is customary to give a head nod or hello when you pass another black person. It lets the other person know that I see you and I acknowledge your existence. I've done this all my life and I've been labelled as too friendly. To me, strangers are friends you haven't met yet. However, these photos captured so much more. Kamala greets our #Forever44 #FLOTUS Michelle Obama with the love, grace and respect of meeting American royalty. Michelle, in turn, points to our first African American,  South Pacific woman Vice President. She seemingly coordinates Kamala to her place in history,, and focuses the attention back to Madame Vice President. So often, reality tv, social media, and newscasters try to pit women against each other. These two queens quashed that narrative before it even started. And there are legions of black women who stand tall and proud behind them. Truth be told, I'm rooting for everyone who is black. May the grace of God cover us as we move forward as a people. There's a great work to do, and sisters are doing it for themselves. We've carried the burden of fixing messes we didn't create, but we do it so well that it's an expectation.  This moment in time is excellence personified and extrinsic motivation. So what are you motivated to do? How did the inauguration affect you? Share your comments below.  Thanks for stopping by. Stay safe and stay healthy.  Take Care and God Bless!!!
