Staying true to yourself

I can't believe 2020 is almost over!!! Goodbye and good riddance to the year that brought us the worst pandemic since 1918. This worldwide disease has shifted our very existence on earth. Natural disasters attacked our environment and survival became the modus operandi. Working from home is now the norm rather than the privilege. Sheltering in place means we're safe at home. With the United States reaching over 335,000 lives lost, networking skills made the difference between learning and suffering. If nothing else, 2020 has proven that necessity is the mother of invention,. Social media was and is the preferred way to connect to others. We use it to reach out to prospective contacts and strengthen ties to clients, family and friends. Today I had the chance to pray with our Faithful Mornings community, manage my healthcare telephonically, and Zoom meet with friends who I connected to each other. This sparked a flood of creativity to not only help myself but also my customers and my platforms. To gain the clarity is nothing short of a miracle. To write the vision is making the next steps actionable. I am taking the things that I love and making them into the life's work of my dreams. Taking this staycation time to reflect and review my options made one thing crystal clear-stay true to yourself. Faking your way through life is a drain. Once you've lost your soul, your gains mean nothing to you or those around you. Authentically earning your success is the sweetest level of attainment. More announcements will be coming soon. Until then, what are you doing? How will you celebrate NYE? What are your plans moving forward? Do you need help on your journey? Please share your comments below or message me directly. Thanks for stopping by. Take Care and God Bless!!!

Celebrating My Mom's Heavenly Birthday

Today has been a day of quiet reflection for me.  My Mom was born on this day many years ago. I won't tell what her age would have been if she were still alive, but I will say she touched many lives during her time on earth. I remember her warm smile, big brown eyes, and radiant spirit that grabbed everyone she met. She taught many students and she was the center of our family. Mom was a warrior for Christ and spread the gospel wherever she went. Even in the nursing home during her later years, she ministered to the staff and her many visitors. I had the opportunity to share her with the world, yet keep the best of her with me. Mom encouraged my curiosity and stoked the flames of exploration to quench the questions. She allowed us to think for ourselves with gentle parental support and guidance.  Always a sophisticated woman with grace, style, and beauty. She laid the foundation for our love of God and our Christian principles.  Mom also gave us the capacity to love others as we love our own. I know she'd be proud of the blogs I've written and look forward to the content portrayed. I will keep it up as my journey is continuing. Happy Birthday Mom!!! Who is your influencer? Staying true to the Game

What are you working on in 2020? How is it going for you? Who is holding you accountable? Are you ready for the change you're working towards? I must admit, no one could've predicted the devastation that the coronavirus caused. During this staycation, I told myself that I'll work on my platform. Speaking on it and obsessing about it.  In actuality, my progress has been difficult. No one is holding me accountable because they're not qualified to do so.  I finally came to the realization that no one needs to know what you're doing unless they can help get you to the next level. It's a better testament when you've accomplished something rather than the struggle to get through it.  Everyone wants to win at something and tell that story. Stay true to your plan, goals, and dreams. Clubhouse is full of entrepreneurs who are self promoting and  selling their expertise. The American dream on display for social media. And we trust social media right? Right. Let your success tell your story. Allow your tests to be your testimony. I know it will be worth it in the end because of all the stories proceeding mine. I'm certainly willing to share my journey and I'm inviting you to come along.  Will you join me? Is your future success worth it? Share your comments below.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

The Greatest Gift Of All Time

So how was Christmas 2020 for you? Is this holiday season living up to your expectations? Or was it just another day for you? Amid the pandemic, many spent time with their families, whether remote or in-person. I decided to shelter in place and be safe at home. This gave me a chance to reflect on the year that was markedly different from 2019. As I looked back, I gave thanks that NO ONE in my immediate or extended family got the coronavirus.  NO ONE lost their job or their home. EVERYONE  has clothes on their backs, shoes on their feet, and food on the table. EVERYONE is thankful and grateful that we made it this far. Coming from the Midwest (Hello Cleveland), we all have a strong Christian work ethic and strong family ties. I wish the same for the rest of the  world and hopefully we'll get there. Let me tell you though, this was not the greatest gift. I  actually received my gift over 2000 years ago. His name is Jesus Christ,  son of the Living God. He came to earth to die for sinners like you and me, and redeem us to Abba Father. God knew us before the beginning of time, and loved us unconditionally. Regardless of the mistakes we made, he still cared about us. When we were in sin, it grieved Him. So much so, He gave His only begotten Son to save us. Not a preacher. Not a prophet. Not an evangelist. Not an apostle. GOD SENT HIS VERY BEST GIFT!!! I'm so glad that Jesus saved me at an early age, and has kept me until this present moment. Have you ever given anyone your very best? Have you ever received a gift you didn't know you needed? If so, were you glad to get it? How many thank yous have you bestowed on the giver? If you have difficulty answering these questions, take the time to reflect deeply and seek professional help if needed. I could never tell everything that God has done for me, even with 10,000 tongues. How about you? What do you have to say? The Gift Of Prince

'Twas the night before Christmas, and I'm writing to you. I hope your holidays are happy, and not making you blue. Depression is a real struggle for some people this time of the year. There's even a medical condition called S.A.D. Seasonal Affective Disorder is a distinct mental health condition Considered "holiday blues", it can be brought on by stress, fatigue,  expectations,  commercialization,  finances, and separation from family and friends. The Mayo Clinic has 10 tips for coping with the holiday season:
  1. Acknowledge your feelings.
  2. Reach out.

  3. Be realistic.

  4. Set aside differences.
  5. Stick to a budget.

  6. Plan ahead.
  7. Don't abandon healthy habits.

  8. Take a breather.

  9. Learn to say no

  10. Seek professional help if you need it.
I always recommend listening to music for any situation. It can take you from where you are to where you want to be. I love Prince and his musical catalog covers every mood imaginable. A recent group post stated the surprise that Prince only made one holiday song "Another Lonely Christmas ". In researching for this post, I  discovered that he wrote this song in 1984 during the height of his career. The song was the B side for "I Would Die For You". He only performed the song live once on Dec 26,1984. The song details the loss of a loved one and the memories shared. During this pandemic, there's been so much loss. I  want to encourage you to face reality AND count your blessings. Remember and honor those who have passed on, but recognize they want you to keep living. I want you to keep living. The gift of you is needed in this world. The gift of Prince and his musical genius will outlive us all with the opening of his vault. Allow me to gift you with a YouTube link for his Christmas song. Click and listen to it here:  https://youtu.be/yFubCQLJdGI .
Please take care of yourself during this pandemic holiday season. If you need professional help, contact the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 800.273.8255. Let's help each other along with this thing called life. Please share your comments below. Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless You!!! Merry Christmas!!!

The Gift Of You

Happy Holidays 2020!!! Celebrating Christmas during the pandemic is testing our mental and spiritual fortitude. The Stimulus package was vetoed by our current administration. Many families are struggling to make ends meet. Many charities are strapped for resources as they try to meet the need. People are breaking records as they travel to see loved ones. The government is recommending that we shelter in place due to the increased spread and mutation of the coronavirus. But what do the lonely due at Christmas? I've been very lucky to have friends to lean on. But if you feel alone, sullen and in despair? WebMD has a list of 19 things you can do to fight the slump:

  1. Make realistic expectations for the holiday season.
  2. Set realistic goals for yourself.
  3. Pace yourself. Do not take on more responsibilities than you can handle.
  4. Make a list and prioritize the important activities. This can help make holiday tasks more manageable.
  5. Be realistic about what you can and cannot do.
  6. Do not put all your energy into just one day (i.e., Thanksgiving Day, New Year's Eve). The holiday cheer can be spread from one holiday event to the next.
  7. Live and enjoy the present.
  8. Look to the future with optimism.
  9. Don't set yourself up for disappointment and sadness by comparing today with the good old days of the past.
  10. If you are lonely, try volunteering some time to help others.
  11. Find holiday activities that are free, such as looking at holiday decorations, going window shopping without buying, and watching the winter weather, whether it's a snowflake or a raindrop.
  12. Limit your drinking, since excessive drinking will only increase your feelings of depression.
  13. Try something new. Celebrate the holidays in a new way.
  14. Spend time with supportive and caring people.
  15. Reach out and make new friends.
  16. Make time to contact a long-lost friend or relative and spread some holiday cheer.
  17. Make time for yourself!
  18. Let others share the responsibilities of holiday tasks.
  19. Keep track of your holiday spending. Overspending can lead to depression when the bills arrive after the holidays are over. Extra bills with little budget to pay them can lead to further stress and depression.
My solution is very simple...reach out. Someone in your life is more that able to comfort and protect you.  You are the gift that someone is praying for. Don't run. Don't hide. Put the energy out there and watch it return to you. If you can't think of anyone,  then join a social club to meet someone. Recognize that the holidays aren't about material things but physical prescence. We need you. We need your energy. Your uniqueness.  Your brilliance. Take your time and reflect on these things suggested. Above all else, know that you are loved, supported, and encouraged to push through. How are you coping this holiday season? Would you like to add to the tips listed? Share your comments below.  Take Care and Merry Christmas!!! God Bless You!!!

Happy Great Conjunction Day

Happy Great Conjunction Day! This is actually the Winter Solstce for 2020. From this day forward, we will gain more daylight to work with. Today's significance is that Saturn and Jupiter are the closest they've been in 800 years! More important, this conjunction is taking place in Aquarius, the sign of innovation, humanitarianism, and independence. Above that, Aquarius is an air sign, which is known to be intellectual, communicative, and idealistic. So what does this all mean?  Jupiter represents growth, Saturn evokes restriction, and Aquarius fosters invention. Together, this means we can expect radical change, growth, and a renewed sense of hope. Astrologers and astronomers have given their predictions how how to see and read this spiritual event. However, I want to share some suggestions from Malena Crawford. Malena created "The Black Divine Feminine Reawakened " and is an absolute influencer of positivity, love and light. She suggests 3 ways to take advantage of the dynamic energy of today:

1. Make your intentions today, they will last for generations to come.
2. Question EVERYTHING and Reprogram your mind.  Take inventory of the beliefs and  thoughts you have been choosing this year. Are they working for you? You will know the truth by how it feels.
 3. Pay attention to what has been rising up in you over the last year. What really matters to you now? Where do you want to take action and move ahead in 2021 & beyond?

According to Malena, you will thrive in this new paradigm when you stop to see the sacred gift in all of your life experiences. The great conjunction will set the tone for the next 20 years affecting everything from the arts, music, theatre, literature, entertainment, designer fashion, food, music, mathematics, science, politics and the government. As an Aquarius, I've felt the shift from the analytical to the creative. As I work on my platforms, I invite you to do the same. Write the vision and make it plain. Map it out and get your blueprints together. Do not miss this divine opportunity to connect to God's will and purpose for your life. Use this time to reflect and prepare. Let's be bold with our efforts toward 2021 making it the year of growth and expansion. Thoughts? Questions? Concerns? Share in the comments below. Thanks for stopping by. Take Care and God Bless!!!

Press Towards The Mark

What are you doing with your life? Are you happy doing it? Or is it a daily struggle? In sales, we have goals to meet and service levels to maintain. In life, it's much the same. Everyone has an idea of how they want to live. Often, we spend that time achieving our heart's desires. Sometimes, we get off course or distracted by tough situations. We put our dreams on the backburner while fulfilling obligations. The good news is that we're still alive!!! As long as there's breath in your body, you can change. I work with older clients who need help with their health options. Day in and day out I hear many things. I try to glean as many pearls of wisdom they give. Mostly, I listen to their regrets. Their struggles. Their frustrations. Their sadness. Their losses. The most important thing they've taught me is to live life to the fullest. Take advantage of the moment. Do what needs to be done to make your dreams come true. As I watched an AARP event, I saw vibrance. I saw energy. We reminisced while looking forward to the future. The event organizers inspired families to join in the festivities while encouraging their 38 million members to remain vigilant. I pass this encouragement on to you. Im off work until the 31st, so I'll be using that time wisely. Take the remainder of 2020 to reflect on the year that was. How do you plan to survive post COVID-19? Where will you be in six months? Next year? Five years from now? If you have issues answering these questions,  consult with an advisor to sort things out. No matter what, don't give up.  Keep P.U.S.H.ING!!! Press towards the mark of the high calling. Find your purpose and expound upon it. Dare to dream again. It's not too late. You're not alone. The future awaits you. Show the world what you're meant to do. So, what are you doing with your life from this point forward? Share your comments below.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Resolve To Just Do It

What are you doing right now? Literally, what motivates you? Do you believe in anything? Has the pandemic ignited a fire in you? Or dropped you in a deep sleep? COVID-19  has shaken the world to the core. Status quo no longer exists. The playing field isnt level, but the doors are wide open. New businesses are filling gaps we didn't know we had. Experts are giving advice on how to PIVOT in this environment. Million dollar deals are happening on Zoom, Clubhouse, and other social media sites. Entertainers have truly used their voices and their platforms to shine a spotlight on their concerns. The politics of our country has elicited the strongest response. The runoff election has drawn many singers to offer their rendition of "Georgia On My Mind". Organizers have created many events speaking to the change agents on the ground making things happen. I was pleasantly surprised by one star who conducted his first IG live with an activist on her first IG live. They had technical difficulties.  They were all over the place with the interview.  However,  they gave valuable information on the issues, implications and importance of this runoff. They also gave information on how we can help. Why wait for 2021? You can start TODAY!!! We need your uniqueness.  Your individuality. Your vision. Your invention. Your viewpoint. Your expertise. Nobody can be you but you. The world needs you now. Not next week. NOW!!! What I saw is people doing it scared...but getting it done. What struck me was how the event wasn't as scary as they thought it would be. We can look at our journey and say the same. So what have you wanted to do? What have you procrastinated on? Researched to death? Given up on and buried deep in your soul? I talk a good game but it's time for some action. So what are you prepared to do? Please share your comments below. Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Be Unstoppable

Work work work work work work.. you've done it again. This sales season wiped me out. I am weary, tired and worn. Dealing with the pandemic and sheltering in place is safe but routine. Having the holiday season upon us, I really wasn't looking forward to a full work week. When I got online yesterday...my schedule had changed. I had a full day of training today. Self-study for my Continuing Education credits. So I literally got a chance to read, refresh, and recall things that I knew but buried deep in my memories. It felt so good to just engage the material and not be on the phones. I was able to immerse my mind in relearning the material while listening to my favorite DJ. What have you done new recently? I realize that 2020 has been more than what we bargained for, but why wait? 2021 is 17 days awayπŸ’œ So start now!!! Time waits for no one and tomorrow is not promised. Why not improve yourself in some way shape or form?  Build better habits now. Start networking now. Release your fears now. Think about it. What were you doing five years ago? What are you doing now? Five years from now? Do you see a pattern? Do you like what you see? Can you do better? Then do it. Do it afraid but still do it. When's the last time you accomplished your NYE resolution? Are you still dreaming of the same things? Did you start a project but didn't finish? Try it!!! JUMP!!! Become who you were meant to be. Follow your purpose and live your best life. The purple life. What is the next step you can take to move towards your goal? I'm blogging more consistently, sharing my journey with you. PRINCE FANS ARE AWESOME!

Why are Prince fans so awesome? Hands down, they act like your family. Prince has one of the biggest international fan bases of any artist. The main difference is that there's an automatic bond with one another. I've been a fan since 1978 when I was 10 years old. At 13, my parents took me and my siblings to my first Prince concert. While waiting outside the arena, Prince fans offered my Mom wine and my Dad weed.  We laugh about that into this day. The connection everyone has to Prince's catalog is ravenous. People collect any piece of memorabilia they can get their hands on. April 21, 2016 is when Prince left this world in utter shock and disbelief. The world turned purple as people reminisced about the Purple One. Seemingly, Prince fans opened their hearts, minds, and vaults. So many creatives have produced artistic renderings of his music, his art, and his image. His estate has released several sets of remastered music. Facebook has numerous groups of fans from around the world. Most group only require respect for one another. Prince taught us to have love for one another.it doesn't matter your race, your sex, or your socioeconomic status.  It's the love for Prince and the love of his music that binds us. We are not just Prince fans, we are the Purple Family. We support one another unashamed and unabashedly. So I wrote this post to share and spread Purple Love to anyone who needs some. May it overwhelm you and overflow to others in need. So what's your story? When did you become a Prince fan? Do you have any fun fan moments? Please share your comments below.  Thanks for stopping by. Peace and Be Wild!!!

Are You OK?

Are you ok? Three little words that pack a multitude of concern and emotion. I've seen these words used as an attention grabber for those lacking affection. I've also seen it used by concerned adults who truly care. Others use it as a control mechanism to manipulate others. This phrase is a gateway to further deeper and difficult conversations. During the pandemic, many cities have sponsored and updated wellbeing checks to ensure residents are cared for. Social media has taken the stigma from asking for virtual hugs, kind words, or motivational quotes. Recently, I asked for some "purple love" sent to me. The response was overwhelming and overflowing. Special shout out to all Prince fans. The Purple Family sent every Prince photo, purple hearts and music clips which brightened my day. All my purple lovers groups posted every purple product you could want. Although I couldn't speak to why I felt that way, but the positive vibrations lifted my mood and energized my spirit.Friends and family checked to lend an ear and soothe my soul. So I ask you now...are you ok? Who is in your corner? Does your circle lift you up? How are your emotional tanks full or empty? Know that I care and am concerned about you. Please share your comments below.  Thank you for stopping by.  . Take Care and God Bless!!!

Level Up Ladies.....Its Time

It's the final countdown!!! 28 days left in 2020....and I'm excited. In my last post I opened up my "mouth"  and declared my desire to become a Voiceover Artist. My phone has rung consistently. When you put things out in the world, it comes back to you. As I review these contacts, I am reminded of the hard work to come. Men meet that weight with energy and drive. Women surmise the situation and quit before getting started. Meanwhile, they support their husbands and sons while managing the household. Imagine the shock of discovering this antiquated belief system is still rampant today. We must do better and be better to our women and girls.  Diversity issues are often addressed by white men who select the "safe" option to appease legal requirements.  However, many women are starting to see the light. They want flexible work options that balance their lives. This upheaval began many years ago but progress is slow. As I completed research for this post, I wanted to know which occupations are trending for women. Below are 10 career paths that women can start:
  1. Blogging
  2. Affiliate Marketing
  3. Freelance Writing
  4. Proofreader
  5. Bookkeeper
  6. Social media influencer
  7. Sell on Amazon
  8. Life Coach
  9. Transcription
  10. Owning Rental Properties
I found it interesting that blogging was at the top of the list. Social media has created a consistent need for content. We don't have eyes everywhere and depend on the experts to reveal their viewpoints with us. Society has engaged fully during the pandemic as a socially distant way to stay connected. These paths honor creativity, ingenuity, and methodology. Having a standard process for a niche market has catapulted several individuals into social media stars. These fresh faced darlings inspire our girls to reach further, soar higher and achieve their goals. So what about you? Do you dare to dream? Do you long for a better quality of life? Do your plans go beyond hitting the lottery? Share your story in the comments below. Let's encourage and inspire each other as we strive for the mark of the high calling.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

'Tis the season to LEVEL UP

Its December 1st 2020. Literally there are 31 days left to this cataclysmic year. Surviving the coronavirus, the elections, and the economic downturn has tested the resolve of many people. However, this is the best time to launch a new venture. Customers everywhere are looking for the next new thing. Viral videos are making stars out of ordinary individuals.  You"ll make mistakes along the way but grow from the experience. Surveying industry experts, they have several indicators to start your business:
  1. When you have a jumping off point for your customers. ...
  2. As soon as possible. ...
  3. When you've honed in on the best idea. .
  4. When you feel comfortable internally. ...
  5. When you've set a date. ...
  6. When you've generated some buzz.
  7. When you've made some early sales.
  8. When everyone tells you you're ready
Most entrepreneurs are driven by the thrill of success or failure.  They thrive off of charting their own course. Necessary is the mother of invention, and the pandemic exposed many societal gaps that exposed needs to be filled. So now that we've winding down the memories of 2020, what's your plan? What are you prepared to do? Are you ready to jump? As for me, I've done some low key learning and big dream talker. Now it's time for some action!!! So I am moving forward on my desire to become a Voiceover Artist. I have my demo and I'm looking for an agent as well as clients. Reach out to me on LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Blogger. Report Card: Love Across The Political Divide

The 2020 Presidential Election drama continues with no end in sight. What saddens me the most is the refusal to share information on the coronavirus. Innocent Americans are dying due to the willful negligence of the current administration. The spiteful rancor towards the pandemic is one of grandstanding, finger pointing, false narratives and bruised egos.  Unfortunately many folks have succumbed to the ignorance and speak venormously. Think about the last :debate" you had with someone. Can you separate the person from their beliefs? Or have you cut then out of your life? I actually reposted a meme on a "christian" webpage. Literally received a comment "this must be a democratic post". I was floored as I offered no opinion but was labelled as such. Trolls enter into social media and wreak havoc on many platforms. My favourite DJ did a 109 hour marathon set on IG Live....AND WAS TROLLED!!! Absolute insanity!!! I cant imagine what our Heavenly Father is thinking? How would he rate us? How would you grade yourself? I have worked in environment with abject racists and socioeconomic snobs. Wherever I am, God's grace and mercy covers me every step I make. Because of His love and guidance, I maintain my peace in the midst of this storm So how have you fared in the face of all this? Please share your comments below. Thanks for stopping by. Unity Over Division: Reclaiming America

Are we there yet? I mean, have they finally called this election? Have they tossed these baseless lawsuits filled with hypocrisy and lies? Are we still protesting for humankind? This pandemic has magnified the political,  financial, spiritual, and moral differences in our Western society. So is this what democracy looks like? Is this what we want to model for the Free World? Like the famous movie quote "me want free". Freedom from the hassle.  Freedom from the headache. Freedom from the heartache. Life isn't peaches and cream, and we shouldn't think of it this way. But does it need to be this hard? Why cant we all get along? Technically there's enough to go around. The rich get richer and we fight over the scraps. We complain,  we march, we protest. Everything is so tense and everyone is going to the extremes. But the real question is....do we need to carry this heavy load? It's so draining to carry the weight of the world. You wind up hurting yourself in the long run. We must pool our resources and work smarter. Together we can stop the insanity and live together. Peace and harmony can be obtained. Freedom is our right and our choice.  Choose ye this day that you burdens be stripped down to the joy you crave. Be your best. Be purple. Live the purple life. Can you dig it? Y2K vs 2020: The History Lesson

Is history repeating itself? The 2000 Presidential Election was a complete mess!!! Hand counting votes, legal challenges, and the winner of the popular vote unseated by the electoral college. Sound familiar? The only thing missing is the punch cards with "pregnant chads". Can you imagine that happening now? In this day and age of a 24 hour news reel? We still get images of turmoil and strife within minutes on the World Wide Web. And we are watching rival factions debating politics while their constituents suffer. Unfortunately this is becoming "the norm" in the light of the coronavirus. Conquerors and robberbarrons seek profits over people and have destroyed anything in their way. They hoard this wealth while the multitudes fight over the scraps. Group mentality fosters to make one feel superior over others to justify their ethical neglect and deplorable actions. Sadly, things appear to be worse and there is no hope left.....or so others would want you to think. What do you feel when you think on these things? Can you empathize with those less fortunate and less educated than you? Do you have any compassion left? Or has COVID-19 forced you to only look out for you and yours? God blessed us with a moral compass to guide us through dark times. Our ancestors used these thoughts and prayers until freedom came. What will history say about us? Let's embrace the past and move forward. Faith without works is naught. And He covers all in his love, grace, and mercy. We want to maintain the high road and live our best life. The purple life.  Share this journey with me as reach the mark of the high calling. Post your comments below. Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Christians united or divided: 2020 Election

Well well well. The 2020 Presidential Election was as sick as the Coronavirus. I mean red states, blue states, and county by county showdowns. These last 4+ years have ripped our country apart. People have drawn battle lines between family, friends, and coworkers.  But in the church? YES EVEN IN THE CHURCH!!! Its been said the most segregated hour is on Sunday morning.  I've never dealt with an evangelical and I can't imagine that they'd welcome a Pentecostal in their midst. My friends are mainly Democratic with a sprinkle of republicans but we don't argue. Points are made and shared, but never judged. We know each other personally and respect each others individuality. But social media is a beast. People have made hate groups, fake news, and robot trolls all to sway folks away from facts. Literally, the network news has to fact check everything due the prevalence of misinformation. Sermons have become politically charged and members are weaponized. The current administration has yet to concede, and followers are being fleeced to fund this failed effort. The world is watching the destruction of the United States of America. Are we ready to rebuild? Who will reach across the divide? Can we just be purple? All the election coverage showed close races as purple until a clear winner was projected. But can we get along? Wanna Get Away? Traveling 2020 Style

How are you spending your time in Quarantine? There are 47 days left in 2020 and  I am ready to go. Usually, my vacation days are used by now. Like everyone else, I thought this pandemic would be over but its getting worse. The rebellion is growing during the second wave of this disease. However, the rest of the world has navigated their policies around the virus and remain open. According to US News &World Report, there are 50 counties that will accept American travellers. Check out the link to see which destination are available. When I look over my past trips, the wanderlust begins. Seeing snapshots of happy memories motivates me to return. Pictures of these Polynesian men make me want to explore new territories. What about you? What have you dreamed of doing during the pandemic? Have you travelled? If so, where? If not, what are you planning to do when it's safe? How do you escape the everyday routine? Please leave your comments below. Thank you for stopping by. Take Care and God Bless!!!

Veterans Day 2020

For all who served and sacrificed for this country,  I wish you a Happy Veterans Day.  This pandemic forced us to celebrate these heroes in a socially distant but still significant way. I don't write about military holidays, but this year hit different. This artistic rendition from the Miles Hyman Art Group gave me chills. The depiction of a serviceman in uniform forced to use a colored establishment struck a nerve. Black men and women have enlisted since slavery. Slave soldiers fought on both sides of the Civil War, often in domestic roles. The crazy thing to me is that soldiers were often jailed beaten lynched and killed by large white mobs enraged at their Service. Black soldiers fought battles overseas just to fight the same battles at home. The agony. The suffering. The struggle. The gains. The losses. It blows the mind. Even worse, the battle continues in 2020. Many minority recruits have died under mysterious circumstances with little fanfare or follow up. Yet, war continues. Our Armes Forces have served as the world's security force. Young men and women enlist to serve our country and preserve our freedom. I salute all who serve and those who retired from serving. Special thanks to the ancestors who endured the worst to make it better for those who followed in their footsteps. Many of my family and friends were soldiers. I respect all who stepped up to the call. Who are the veterans in your life? Care to share their story? Please leave your comments below.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

National Author's Day

November 1st is National Author's Day. This holiday originated in the 1920s and became official in the 1940s. The day is set aside for showing love and appreciation for those individuals who create the stories that enrich our lives. Whether you like fiction, history, fantasy or news stories, someone has to research, write, edit, produce, and  publish the content.  With the advent of social media, we have millions of titles to choose from. Great storylines can capture our minds and take us to magical places. Authors often struggle for years to produce their final product. This lonely arduous process can siphon the creativity from any individual.  So please recognize your favorite author on this day. Some ideas include:

1)Tweet at your favorite author today
2) Buy a book and give it to a friend
3) Give some time to the author inside of you

I salute all my fellow authors in my social media circle. Blogging gives me the chance to regularly create content. However, there's something about getting into a good book that you can't put down Are you in a book club? What has been your favourite read? Please share your comments below. Thank you for stopping by. Take Care and God Bless!!!

October Is National Domestic Violence Month

Did you know that October is National Domestic Violence Month? During this pandemic, the statistics have gotten worse. Sheltering in place with your abuser is the worst case scenario. Chicago Police receive 500 calls a day or 180,000 calls in a year. You see the horrific stories of pregnant women shot and killed by their partner. Children killed for leverage in custody battles. Friends killed when responding to calls for help. Domestic violence crosses all walks of life whether rich or poor, black or white, straight or gay. Partner abuse can start as early as middle school and often flares up at college campuses. Children who witnessed the fighting often become victims of the same. Studies show that a woman is beaten every nine seconds and killed every 100 seconds. Many survivors recount the silence and the shame that they endured, but they're happy to still be alive. God has blessed me to never experience abuse. However, I dealt with victims in school, on the job, walking down the street, driving in the car, and traveling the world. Most organizations have policies and procedures to address situations.  However, they need the victims to tell what is happening. Please if you ot anyone you know is being mentally, verbally, or physically abused, call the Domestic Violence Hotline at 877.863.6338. I do it for my schoolmate who screamed all night long while her boyfriend cut her into pieces. Who do you fo it for? Please share your stories below. Take Care and God Bless!!!

Keep Your Energy

How tired are you? It's that time of the year again.....Fall Back. I'll take that extra hour of sleep and slip back into darkness. I use this time to replenish and reflect. What have you done this year? How has the pandemic affected your future? Are you energized? Or are you exhausted?  I mean have you ever overdone it? Burned the candle at both ends? Were you dragged into something that you KNEW you wanted no part of? Why do we keep doing this to ourselves? Wouldn't the world be a better place if we just said no? Imagine being free to be with no hang ups or setbacks. No cares. No responsibilities.  Just living our lives the way we want. Think about this....why do we get drafted? Often  other people play on the relationship to manipulate participation. They should have said no in the beginning as well. They bite off more than they can chew then pass the leftovers to you(and me too). But we accept begrudgingly and commiserate the entire time. Sometimes it works, but usually it's a recipe for burnout and disaster.   Well, I've just put everyone on notice. I'M NOT TAKING IT ANYMORE!!!!! Life is too short, and I'm working on me. There's only so much one person can do. And we need to focus that energy on our goals and dreams.  I've got other things to accomplish. And you do too. How many times have you put your dreams on the backburner to help someone else achieve theirs? Do you like propping others up? Do you want your time in the spotlight? Do you want to shake the chains that are binding you? Join me on this journey as we make better choices to lead our best lives. The purple life. Let Go and Let God Handle It

Have you ever had that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach? I mean that nawing churn or that tightly wound feeling? I get them all the time in my back. Those little aches and pains show up when I've pressured myself. Stressed myself out over things I rarely control. Mainly I worry about outcomes and their effects on me and my "brand". I try to make sure that if I give my word, I complete the task. Every once in a while I bite off more than I can chew. Usually team efforts dwindle down to the dedicated few...and that's the stretch.  What do you do when your whole team is overwhelmed and your plans go awry? I mean Zoom meetings teleconferencing, remote working all boils down to self motivation. I am grateful to God because He always provides for His plan. There have been so many times that God had to step in and take over. Often the result is better than anything I previously planned. So much so, I often get drafted to do that much more. I'm going to start telling people to trust God and let Him handle it.  I'm not that special,  just unique and dedicated to Christ. Because of Him, I've been blessed to live my best life. The purple life.  The journey gets rough but we persist and survive.  What's your story? How has He pulled you through? What do you need Him to take over for you? Please share your comments below and let's support each other.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

NO MORE PEOPLE PLEASING!!!!

Have you ever been drafted to do something you didn't want to do? Do folks "volunteer " you for anything and everything? Do folks tell you what you "should" be doing? Well then you already know those situations rarely turn out right.  I often see this meme about wanting to say no but you get into a mess that you could have avoided by saying no. I used to think it was an honor. Now I know it's a drain and often it's the dirty work. I have made the moves and stood my ground.  Say it with me...NO MORE PEOPLE PLEASING!!! Trust me. Your life will be sweeter and more fulfilled when you prioritize and delegate.  Sometimes when you do too much, you block someone else's blessing.  Take a breath and ponder the points. Do some critical thinking.  Evaluate the benefits and risks associated with your decision. I'm always available for suggestions but I make sure its worth it. Many organizations strategically realign their people, technology,  locations, and resources. Have you organized your life? How do you determine what your next move will be? Or do you let others control your life? We need to help each other. Let's be accountable to ourselves and our companions.  Leave your comments below. Thank you for sharing your journey with me. Celebrating the HistoryMaker: Bishop Arthur M Brazier

This Sunday was one of rest and remembrances.  Ten years ago, our Pastor Emeritus transitioned to be with the Lord. To celebrate his memory, our church replayed one of his most popular sermons. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our church was able to pivot to streaming service along witha dial-in feature. Have you ever seen "the move of the Spirit" at your church? I must admit that God is omnipresent so He's always there in the sanctuary. Sometimes He shows up and shows out.  Bishop Brazier always ran a timely service, but this was an experience to behold. To see his image digitally remastered and preserved was amazing. He gave his greetings to the members and proceeded to his sermon. Bishop talked about faith. He talked about living through some of our mistakes and trusting God in all things. Bishop Brazier spoke with a fire that took over the Sanctuary.  By the time all was said and done, most of the congregation were on their feet. I felt the weight of the world fall off my shoulders and the peace of God in my heart. It felt like I was there with them as one congregation with one Spirit.  Has anything moved you so positively? Have you used that event to inspire others? If not, now is a great time to start. I invite you to look at this service for yourself on www.acog-chicago.org and let me know what you think. Please share your comments below. We're all on this journey together striving to be the best we can be. Thank you for stopping by. Take Care and God Bless!!!

2021: Hope for the Future

November 2020 will be HISTORIC!!! By all prophecies,  prognostications, and patterns, the last two months before 2021 are destined to be a fruitful season of harvest. Many people have pivoted to a new way of working, creating and hustling. But for those who have not planted, what do you expect to reap? Are you stuck languishing in what coulda, woulda, shoulda been? Are you paralyzed by fear and still stuck in the same place as last year...and the year before that? Or are you running in circles repeating the same cycles expecting different results? Well you aren't alone. So many others are stressed and suffering anxiety attacks, depression, homicidal and suicidal thoughts. People have even turned to alcohol, opiates, and other mind altering drugs to seek temporary relief from persistent problems. So when are you going to take a stand? What changes can you undertake to move towards your goals? Have you identified your life's purpose? Have you even tried and failed to achieve success? Have you seen others do it and now you want it to? It can be scary to undertake a new course and follow through.  But if not now, when? If not you, who? I've taken my time to make sheltering in place since March 2020 a time of transformation.  I've researched and eliminated bad connections and pointless associations.  I'm establishing new relationships with my goals in minds. I've gotten great encouragement and learning opportunities to grow from. My hope is to greet 2021 with ambition and plans to make my dreams come true. And I also hope to take you with me. Can we agree to make the best of these next 68 days? Can you create actionable goals? Do you have a schedule of events lined up? Can you overcome your past to greet your future? Is accountability important to you and your goals? If so, we can get through the journey. Let's begin by providing support for each other. How can we help you reach your goal? Leave your comments below. Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Your Purpose Is Calling You

Have you ever felt a churning inside? I mean like fire shut up in your bones? Or is there an imaginary hole that never filled? When it gets to the point that it overwhelms you, its trying to tell you to something. Keep your dreams alive. Answer the call of God's purpose on your life. Pursue your passions at all costs. If you have no idea where to begin, find someone who is doing what you wants. Learn from them. Glean from their methods and practices.  Study the pitfalls and failures. But what if you have a need that's overpowering? What if your desire is burning inside? What do you do? Step out of the discomfort zone. I just couldn't take it anymore. Rather than complain about the depth of my desires, I found a way to dip into the thing that I needed most. This blog is a step in the right direction. I'm in transition. This pandemic has emphasized that life is not promised. Over 223,000 Americans have passed from COVID-19. Their Hope's, passions and dreams buried right with them. Rather than the deep dive, I'm launching into the shallow end.  Slow and steady approach to all the changes I need to make in my life. I'm so analytical that the creative side has been seeping out. Well now is the time of release. And I know I'm not alone. How have you held back? How are you burning inside? Are you dying to fulfill your purpose? Or drowning in dreams unfulfilled? Either way, your release is coming. Leave a comment and let me know how you are handling it.  We must support each other on this journey.  Let's continue to reach for the mark of the high calling....living the best life. The purple life.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

10 years since Bishop Brazier passed

Have you ever had to deal with the loss of your religious leader? The very though of the Sainted Bishop Arthur M Brazier makes me smile. I'm not sure that there are enough words to describe the gratitude I have for the man I dubbed my Spiritual grandfather. Today marks the tenth anniversary of his death, and it serves as a reminder of how blessed we were because of him. So many people in Chicago are familiar with him and his story. Every where I go, I meet people who smile and share their Bishop story. When I was planning my move to Chicago,  I asked my Pastor about which church to attend.  His response was that he heard about this big church and their Pastor who's famous. I literally came with bright eyes and big dreams. Bishop Brazier took this naive suburban college grad and grew her into the sophisticated Christian lady that you see today. The power of his preaching. The warmth of his spirit coming across the pulpit. The awesomeness of his passion and compassion for his congregation. The respect and reverence he earned for his years of civil rights activism. The grace. The mercy. The favor. Bishop Brazier was a History Maker. An honorable and prudent man who was at the helm of the "Miracle on 63rd Street". His legacy will outlive us all, and the Arthur M. Brazier Foundation works every day to continue his work. I'm glad to have been a parishioner and I live a blessed life because of him. You showed us the true meaning of living our best life in Jesus. Thank you!!! Has anyone influenced your spiritual journey? Please feel free to leave your well wishes, memories,  and comments.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Decide To Move Forward

It's been said that if you don't choose to make a decision,  then that's your decision. Are you having difficulty making decisions? You're not alone. Many people agonize over decisions. Having difficulty making decisions can be a sign of depression. Fear of making the wrong decision and suffering consequences or remorse inhibits some people.  So where do we begin? I mean, when you want to make a change how do you start? And what's the end goal? Sometimes we must put our noses to the grindstone.  Often, we can learn valuable lessons from those who are already doing it. Having a chance to see their new direction can give us a chance to refocus...and save some headaches and heartaches along the way. Are you using all your resources? Are there others who can mentor you to personal and professional success? Can they save you from making the mistakes they've made? We must get out all possible outcomes to get to the truth of the matter. We must evaluate all evidence before reconciling the matter. And we must move forward to gain the rewards attached to ending the situation that has been thoroughly vetted. I don't know what the future holds, but I do know who holds my future. I put my faith, trust, and hope in God as He navigates this thing called life.  I aspire to live the best life....the purple life. I strive to be in God's will as He has a plan for my life. I often move as He would have me move deliberately and with purpose. He has the vision,  and He's made it plain. Have you aligned your will with His? Have you noticed the difference in your results? How are you doing on your journey? Share your comments below.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Finding The Bright Side Of Life

They say that Monday is one thing but Tuesday is just as bad. Today was that day.  I mean, everything that could go wrong did. Angry customers, crazy computers, lack of common courtesy and socislly distant relationships. I smiled through it all though I was exhausted. I mean beyond tired. Beyond weary. I fell asleep and couldn't find my glasses.....which were on my face😱😱😱.  It hard to do the adulting thing. You just want to scream, stomp your feet, and throw a tantrum.  But you cant. And you shouldn't. Take some time to reevaluate the situation. Is there a bright side? Have you weighed the options? Can you see your way out? Can you stand up to the disappointments? Or will you crack under pressure? You only get one chance at life. People have died wishing they had the opportunity you do. People are hospitalized clinging to hope. People need just a little help to make it through the day.  Don't take it personal when things don't go your way. We are doing the best during the pandemic.  Finding little reasons to keep going helps to make it through the day. Realize this is part of the refinement.  When it's all said and done, you'll come forth as pure gold. Royalty. Purple life goals. Join me in this journey as we strive toward the mark of the high calling.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

WHEN SUNDAY COMESπŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ™ŒπŸ½πŸ™ŒπŸ½

Is there any rest for the weary? Have you completely burned the wax off your candle? Does the mere thought of a task suck out all your energy? Well oftentimes our bodies are telling us to slow down. We run the rat race to complete exhaustion and then wonder how we got this way. Celebrities famously announce when they are taking a break, on vacation, etc. WHY? Because they recognize the value of rest towards their creativity and performance. God even mandated the seventh day to be a day to put down what labors us and worship Him. I actually worked this weekend and it really got to me. So I turned to social media to play my favourite songs. To my surprise, my favorite DJ spun a complete Gospel music set.  Watching churches online during the pandemic, many pastors must reach through the airwaves to parishioners. Well today, the Spirit of the Lord was present and flowing across the board.  The underlying message was to renew your faith. Keep your faith strong so you can face each day. When you start to "feel the fire", quench it with your faith. If your faith gets low, then things that don't normally get to you find their way through. The words that they spoke restored a piece of my soul that I didn't recognize was lacking. My hope has been awakened and set on fire for God. My purpose in life is to spread His love throughout nations. I am squarely back on the right path, reaching towards the mark of the high calling. I am a child of God and I can only thrive in His presence. I will do His will and I will continue to walk in His ways. He has blessed us tremendously and has never left or forsaken us. We are on this journey together as we continue to aim towards living our best life. The purple life.  How far along are you on your journey? Have you taken a break? Paused and assessed your situation? Share your comments below.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Vote: Exercise Your Rights 2020

VOTE!!! Whether you mail it in, go to the polls early, or make your plan for November 3rd. I've had all I can stand, I cant stand no more. I am fed up with the unfortunate policies of the current administration. Our country is being pilfered by a "billionaire " xenophobic monster who doesn't care about anything but himself. The American People have been silent for too long. There's only one thing they understand and that's power. Money cant buy everything,  and some money is better than none at all. However,  these robberbarons have sunk to a new low. Creating and enforcing policies to escape the law and due process is exactly the steps taken in Nazi Germany. Children are STILL in cages separated from their mothers. This is frightening,  but oddly American. Since the slave trade, trail of tears, and internment camps , Americans have become more aware of the racial divide that no one is trying to repair. The world is watching and they are not pleased. God is watching and His will shall come to pass.   How will this ugly episode be viewed by history? Probably as one of the darkest moments in the country.  Let your light shine. Let your voice be heard. #VOTE #RememberInNovember #WhenWeAllVote
Definitely stand in your truth and live your power. You matter. Your thoughts matter.
Too many lives are at stake to sit on the side and let this continue. As we all strive to live the best life, we must never forget our most vulnerable.  Let's finish this chapter and proceed to the rest of our collective lives. The purple life . Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless !!!

international Day Of The Girl 2020

Today is the International Day of the Girl 2020. It's not lost on me that yesterday was Mental Health Day. Since 2012, this day was set aside to recognize the plight of girls around the world. Often, poverty, opportunity,  and lack of education subject young girls to a substantial loss of their rights and freedoms. At a very young age, studies have shown an education and self-esteem gap between boys and girls in the US. Atrocities against girls are often documented but aren't publicized or prosecuted.  As a young woman, I have often advocated on the behalf of children. I am utterly amazed at the things people do to express their beliefs. Protests have gone from ridiculous to sublime. Their impact is as wavering as their causes. People are so full of vitriol that they are burning their property to prove a point. To no one surprise, this move has triggered tremendous press and condemnation. It's sad to think in 2020 that people are most upset about masks rather than peaceful protest of the rampant violence against black and brown people. Rather than fighting each other, what are we leaving for the next generation? What lessons are they learning from our behavior? We're moving backwards and causing folks to reminisce about times past. Is this their passion? No, they are followers of a trend that can only dive into a deeper spiral. I choose to go high with this and mentor those who come to me for help.  I support other women and often post their successes.  But now I'm continuing to support corporate sponsors who buck trends and stand on the right side of history. I wonder what will be written about this socially impactful movement. Until then, I will still support worthy causes and continue to reach my goal of living my best life. The purple life. What do you think? How do you feel? How are you supporting the girls and women in your life? How are you promoting their mental and physical health? Share your comments below. Thanks for stopping by. World Mental Health Day 2020

So today is World Mental Health Day. It's a gentle reminder to take care of yourself and reach out if you need help. We have lost some normalcy due to the coronavirus.  Our society has suffered a sizemic shift where survival is tantamount to making it to tomorrow. Mental health issues are finally being addressed by public health officials  due to the overwhelming need to recover losses suffered during this pandemic. So let's talk about it. How are you feeling? How are you coping? Have you ever stressed out when trying something new? Do you gripe about what used to be? Are you still upset with people....even after they've died? How are you treating your loved ones? After all, you're sheltering in place right? RIGHT!!! This is why you must manage your situation. Take it down a notch. Relax, relate, release. Seek professional help and advice as needed. When you push yourself to the brink, there's nothing left. The snap back is worse for the wear and tear that you're going through. Even the finest machines break down and need repair.  So do you. The joy comes from the journey. Most millionaires have a humbling experience that they've come to grips with.  They offer their best advice to help keep you from falling in the same trap. But are you listening? Or do you forge ahead doomed to make the same mistakes? Stop and consider the consequences. Evaluate your options.  Then rest in your calculated decision.  You will enjoy life more and help others along the way. So how can you incorporate mental health into your work-life balance? Share your comments below.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

My Life in the Sunshine

Indian Summer? Pagan rituals? The possibilities are endless.  However,  it meant more to me in this year of the pandemic. The break in the weather was real and noticeable in Chicago. We went from 60 degrees to 80 degrees TODAY!!! The warmth of the sun melted the aches and pains in my bones. I started off weary, I was energized.  I certainly understand why the "snow birds" seek the sunny destinations when it gets cold outside.  You can tell many folks are getting tired of sheltering in place. People seek each other out to congregate and celebrate. Just this month, we've had hurricanes, wildfires, and political upheavals. We've also had professional sports, television productions,  and drive-in festivals. People are bonding over their taste and style.....in an effort to get through this thing called life.  Personally, I enjoyed Prince's Sign O The Times re-release and celebration. Often, it's the shared moments we treasure most. Why? Because human beings crave connection and a sense of belonging.  Whether it"s a large group or an intimate few, the memories and nostalgia carry us through the tough times. That is the idea behind life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  But must you chase happy? Is it all created for a social media post? Or are you having an experience? Only you can answer this question.  As for me, I enjoy running the race to get to the press towards the mark of the high calling.  Even during COVID-19,  I am committed to living my life without regrets. I invite you on this journey as we discover our best selves and our best life. The purple life.  Share your comments below.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Somewhere Over The Rainbow

When they go low, we go higher. Bipartisan politics have ripped our country apart. Recently, the 2020 Vice Presidential Debate cemented the rifts paved in our society now. Climate change has taken center stage in the news cycle. Social media has enabled everyone to be an armchair pundit. The focus on minutiae (that fly? Pink eye?) nearly drowned out their talking points. I had to step back and process it all. Luckily,  I had some throwback photos appear in my timeline today. There was a double rainbow that spread across the city. Such a beautiful sight to behold. God created this natural wonder and made you pause and pay attention. Be in the moment. Absorb your surroundings and become one with it. God's covenant to not destroy the earth personified in a vibrant colorful display. Can you imagine speaking things into existence? I mean putting good thoughts in the universe and having them come back to you? That's the purple life mindset. Make it happen.  Choose to be better than you were yesterday. As you know better, do better. Be the best you that you can be. Authenticity is a rare find and is worth its weight in gold. People are drawn to the light within that shines around you. Are you free to share it? Or do you need to find it? Either way, it's the journey that counts. Join me as we discover the ways to increase the royal values of our purple life. Joy and Happiness during the Pandemic

Happy Hump Day!!! This is a popular greeting made famous by a commercial with a "talking camel". It's surprising easy to say yet so hard to live. During this pandemic, the news and social media seems defeatist and depressing. People drudge their way through life working at jobs that aren't fulfilling. Whether working remotely or in the public, folks are sheltering in place in positions of powerlessness. They travel to and fro either with masks or with wreckless abandon, shop at big box stores, and still live beyond their means.  Their children either attend failing schools in contaminated areas or socially distanced laptop lessons. The isolation and revised routine has added to family issues and dysfunction.  Yet, our inalienable rights are to life, liberty, and the pursuit of....... happiness.  I will admit that I have been to several seminars which promise to unleash your true potential and unlock success. The bottom line always comes back to the same concept: do what you love to do and riches will come to you.  People spend millions on potions, potables, prescriptions, and physicians seeking some semblance of having a feel good moment.  Well I have some news for you. It is possible to be happy right where you are!!! Even when going through trying times, our attitude of faith can carry us through. We are able to receive a blessing in the midst of trouble.  And eventually the joy we seek will come to us in ways we didn't expect or contemplate.  Do you know how to change your mindset to see the positive? Pray.  God gives knowledge freely if we ask.  I have chosen to look at things "half full", and envision the overflow of abundance to come.  That's why I created this blog. My Purple Life Blog is filled with posts to uplift and compel you to live your best life; like the Kings and Queens we were created to be. Are you willing to improve your life? Are you depending on external things for happiness? How is that working for you? Join me on this journey by posting your comments below.  Thanks for sharing and stopping by. The Pain of Making Mistakes

Have you ever been surfing the internet when something caught your attention? I am a forever student so I enjoy all the "free" self-help classes. Everyone is an expert that you've never heard of who spends 90 minutes telling you about themselves to give you one nugget of good advice. Then, there's the  $497 pitch for the next level of classes and coaching. Honestly, there is some real trash out there with steep prices for horrible methods and worst business practices. However, some people are sponsoring seminars, masterclasses and virtual conferences. One young lady is so real and so relatable to the everyday, ordinary  people.  She posts her ups and downs, good days and bad days along with the hits and misses. Her stories are wildly funny and gripping.  People often joke about the things rich people spend money on.  I was tempted to throw this story into that category.  Yet she made me more inquisitive.  Her facial expressions say everything while she always presents receipts for the successes and accomplishments she's obtained. One example she gave stuck with me. Many classmates start at the same point in time and life. Some squirrel away their talents and never get started. Then, there are the risktakers who forge ahead into the worldwide web. They often lose money time and sleep getting the kinks out and gaps filled in. At the reunion, folks compare and contrast the personal progress versus the paralyzed in place. How many times have you experienced something painful that was supposed to help you?  I remember my Mom allowing me to touch a hot stove to feel the pain of burning so I'd never do it again.  I became more cautious as I grew into my curiosity.  I wanted to evaluate all options before moving forward.  I don't like feeling pain or choosing the option that delivers pain.  So I spent my early years being safe.....secure in my world.  God had bigger plans, but He waited for me to build the maturity to seek Him fully and come under His plan.  He used the pains and trials of life that I went through to build me up into the vessel He could use for His divine purpose.  What was your biggest pain?  Did it work out for your good? Do you feel you learned from it?  Have you made that mistake again?  This COVID-19 pandemic has stoked the fires of dreams abandoned and visions revealed. These are the types of questions that I work with now in love, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  The answer always boils down to the purple life that I strive to live.  No regrets.  No woulda, coulda, shoulda.  No complaints.  The journey is far from over and more precious with every step.  Join me as we travel this road called life together.  Post a comment and track your progress with me.  Thanks for sharing and stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Hustle In Silence

The pandemic has raged on. Over 200 000 lives lost. Their hopes, dreams and desires buried with them. The year of 2020 will definitely appear in the history books for the monumental shift changes and dynamic actions taken. We're 90 days away for 2021, and many are proclaiming that blessings will come in abundance. I'm holding on to my faith to manifest this belief. With this in mind, what are you working on? How is it going for you? Who is holding you accountable? Well the real question- are you ready for the change you're working towards? I must admit, I had been saying that I'm working on things. Speaking on it. Obsessing about it.  In actuality, my progress has been stagnant. I've taken more classes to sharpen my skills, but then life happens. No one is holding me accountable because they're stuck in their own lives with their own difficulties.  And the costs for coaching/mentoring feel prohibitive.  But I finally came to the realization that I must move forward. Pass or fail, the only way to see what works is to test it out. No one needs to know what you're results are unless they can help get you to the next level. It's a better testament when you've accomplished something rather than the struggle to get there.  Everyone wants to win at something and tell that story. Hustle in silence and let your success scream out. Allow your tests to be your testimony. I know it will be worth it in the end because of all the stories proceeding mine. I'm certainly sharing my journey and I'm inviting you to come along.  Share your comments below.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Because of her I can

Today is that day I'll never forget. Nine years ago my beloved mother died at 3am. My life was forever changed in that moment.  Every single night I awaken at 3am.....even when on vacation in different parts of the world. Every. Single. Night. For nine years. I've tried to explain it away but my heartbreak won't let me. She is my rock and the firm foundation she built is what I stand on. I thank God that He allowed me to be raised by this earth angel. Now she's in Heaven in God's army. Mom was a teacher so she encouraged the curious nature of mine. Reading was my escape and my fascination. She recognized these gifts and helped them flourish. I think about the things she taught, but mostly her love of Jesus.  He healed her. He saved her. And He saved a wretch like me. I'm going to live the best life possible because she expected nothing less. Mom even learned to love purple as much as I do. I am the Diva because I was raised by a Queen. So who motivates you? Who planted the seeds for you to grow? Are your works flourishing? Or will they be buried with you in the grave? I think on these things often which keeps me motivated.  How about you? The Administration of Law

On September 30, 2020, the world woke up to the morning after the Presidential Debate. The shift of energy was so strong as people let their thoughts and reviews known. Protests are more vigilant and counter demonstrators are "standing back and standing by". This heightened response almost overshadowed the Breonna Taylor investigations. More truths are coming out. The Attorney General did not present evidence or argument of murder. He actually asked for more time to manipulate the voice recordings of witnesses. Also they discovered new bodycam tapes of the aftermath of Breonna Taylor's murder. The cries for justice echo louder as the FBI continues their investigation. The blinders are falling off as people struggle to support the news stories presented to the American public. This is a story that has gripped the hearts of everyone who empathizes with the vulnerability of being shot and killed in the home. As we watched this tragedy unfold before us, we pray a collective prayer for her and her family. Please share your thoughts comments and prayers below. Thank you for stopping by. Stay safe and stay healthy.

While You Were Sleeping

Say her name. Breonna Taylor. This hit me different. She tried to make a difference. Her apartment was raided at an ungodly hour. This young lady was shot and killed in her home. In. Her. Home. Baffling to me is that the person they were looking for was in their custody. Unfortunately,  too many young lives lost to violence turn into hashtags. So many hashtags that it becomes a habit that drifts into memory. But this hits differently. Breonna Taylor worked two jobs as an ER Technician, trying to become a nurse. For those who are working during this pandemic, can you imagine how tired you are after your shift? For essential workers, can you imagine the stress of having two positions in a high intensity filled emergency rooms? How many of us have fallen asleep while watching movies? Put yourself in her shoes. She is weary from working and needed to ease her mind. Instead, police break into your home unannounced and causing damage. Standing your ground doesnt work when you're against "trained officers " who don't follow their own protocols. A woman who was unarmed caught 6 bullets and bled to death in her home. Then, her murder is swept under the proverbial mat for over 6 months. Every day, more details are released about this murder we have.that opens the wounds. This young lady looks like anyone sister, cousin, or best friend. And her life was cut short of the potential she showed. The city paid her family $12M for wrongful death. But that's not enough money for missing her daily in their lives. Collectively, we miss her in our lives too. So how has her murder affected you? What are you doing to express your feelings? Have you lost a loved one tragically like this? How are you coping with it? Please share your comments below. So as we visit more sides to her story, let's memorialize her respectfully.  #sayhername #breonnataylor

2 good 2 be 4 gotten

The accolades continue to come in for Chadwick Boseman. Disney has released a mural in his honor. Marvel will be paying tribute by putting his name across the front of their newest comic books. The artwork that the creatives have made has highlighted many facets of his life. The grief has waned but is still present for many people. There's a hero sized hole that won't be filled anytime soon. There won't be any stellar performances from this rising star. We won't see anymore of his work ethics or onscreen imagery. His interviews revealed his depth and his speeches brought levity and light. Chadwick Boseman has moved into the "gone too soon" stratosphere like Prince, Jimi, Elvis and many others. He was a man of faith who practiced what he preached. He visited children in the hospital fighting cancer while he was fighting cancer. Chadwick made public appearances to the very end of his life. Chadwick faced his healthcare head on while he and his circle did not inform the public about it. I am looking forward to more extended versions, deleted scenes and background clips that will unfold. I remember when we used to sign yearbook, we always used the "2 good 2 be 4 gotten" slogan. As life happens, we truly do realize the good die young. Who have you felt left us too soon? How do you remember their lives and what they lived for? How motivated are you to leave your mark on this world? Please share your comments below. Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Prince: Sign O' The Times Re-Released

I have been in purple heaven. The Prince Estate officially re-released the 1987 Sign O' The Times album. There are several editions available to the public and the celebrations have been EPIC. On Thursday,  the Estate debuted the SOTT concert on Prince's YouTube channel. Afterward, the album was celebrated with an all night long jam session of both new and classic Prince songs. DJ Rashida and Natasha Diggs hosted this event with several guest speakers and disc jockeys spinning their musical mixes and remixes. On Friday, Paisley Park hosted the first public screening of the SOTT movie. The after party was hosted by DJ Keezy and Sophia Eris. The critics have been raving about the remastered versions of Prince's hits and collaborations. Personally, I loved seeing the deference Prince gave to the legendary Miles Davis in their only on-stage performance.  If the vault contains the volume of works that the SOTT and 1999 box sets reflect, we can look forward to extended editions of Prince's music "until the end of time". Let's talk about how  Prince is still making news after his untimely death. I need to hear from you, the Purple Family. Have you purchased your copy? Did you see the movie? Did you go to Paisley Park? What's the best part for you? Which album should the Prince Estate remaster next? Flood my comments section with your thoughts, reviews, and concerns. Thank you for stopping by. Stay safe and stay healthy.

You Were Meant To Stand Out

As we remember the life and times of Chadwick Boseman, I found this quote attributed to him. These words remind us to hold on to our individuality. I liken this to the brilliance of children. They run. They play. They push boundaries. They aren't afraid to try new things. They are uniquely their own as they explore the world around them. Chadwick also modeled this behavior throughout his career.  As a student at Howard University, his classmates recalled his bright personality and spiritual grounding. He would not take one dimensional, stereotypical roles. He played smaller parts until his big break came through. He added new depth with each performance,  honing his craft to improve on his skills. And he persisted. Chadwick navigated the murky waters of Hollywood, creating his own version of success. His supporters held him up until the bitter end. He blazed a trail for strong black role models who are believable to the public and viable at the box office. He proved that sticking to your principles will pay off wildly and vindicate your actions. Chadwick distinguished himself by allowing his character and strength shine through each historical portrayal he performed. So I turn this statement on us. Are we giving our best performances to our job/business? Can we relate what we're doing to our purpose in life? What kind of character are we showing to others? Chadwick left so many mottos he lived by, and we will continue our journey to studying his mantras. Please share your comments below. Thank you for stopping by. Stay healthy and stay safe.

An Indescribable Loss

Have you ever been at a loss for words? I mean nothing is coming out of your mouth? On August 28, 2020, the newscaster reported the death of Chadwick Boseman. In that moment, it felt like the world froze. I was dozing off, but that announcement sat me straight up in bed. Unlike the death of Prince,  this was completely unexpected. Out of the blue. Unimaginable. The collective response was "How? He was so young." Soon, the heartbreaking details started to come out. His life was becoming a patchwork quilt of memories that those around him shared. Everyone felt the pain of the enormity of his passing,  but clamored to share the piece of him that they received. Millions of fans of the Black Panther movie were and continue to offer tribute to their King T'Challa. I saw a listing of the five reasons why this hurt cuts so deep to those who didn't know him:

1. Their work helped us get through a difficult time in our lives.
2. Their work inspired our dreams and goals.
3. They modeled possibility.
4. Their death triggers our grief and losses
5. Their passing activates our fears around death.

While we struggle with the loss of Chadwick Boseman, we continue to celebrate the impact he had in our world. He lived his life on his own terms. His energy vibrated higher than his condition. Chadwick projected images of African American history makers while creating the image of himself. While we will miss the potential of his successful career, we can reflect on the catalog he left behind. I found so many examples of mottos that he lived by that I want to share. This will be a powerful path to add to our journey together. These nuggets will help us obtain our best life. The purple life. So what are some mottos you live by? Have you ever had to push through your health condition? Was there someone in your life who imparted this drive and determination? Please comment below. Thanks for stopping by. Take Care and God Bless!!!

DJs are saving lives

Last night, entertainment history was made. The 2020 Emmys were socially distanced from 100+ locations. More importantly,  D-Nice served as the first DJ/ Rapper to do the Creative Director of Music/ Co-Host of the show. The CEO of Club Quarantine helped to ensure the production went off without a hitch. This pandemic has highlighted the fact that DJs are saving lives. Chicago is the birthplace of Gospel music. The team at Inspiration 1390am take calls, texts, and emails from their listeners.  Every single day, they get testimonies, sage advice and prayers over the airwaves. Often, the DJs get the same in return. The music is a Ministry for Sonya Blakey, Marcella Jones, and DeAndre Patterson. Whenever I travel back home to Cleveland, it's Haz Matthews chatting it up about the local scene. Staying home has become an exercise in isolation, depression, and hopelessness. People are reaching out to find some sort of comfort and community. Many DJs are putting their product and skills online and on social media. Whether you enter into the Magnificent House Party, Sunday sCQool, or Disco Sunday Fellowship, you're bound to chase your troubles away. I have seen the rise of House music with the Chosen Few DJs, the Hot Mix 5, and House Junkies sponsoring events like drive-ins and picnics for their loyal fans. I've even seen people who used to DJ dust off their equipment to see if they still got it. In fact, there are classes that can teach you how to DJ. All of this proves that the human race starves and will search for connections and confirmation.  The ultimate goal is a sense of wellbeing and belonging. Many lessons are being taught about pivoting your talents into a livelihood. I implore you to follow your calling. Hone your craft so that you are ready to be the next "overnight sensation". Let's take our creativity to the limits in pursuit of the best life. The purple life. What's the name of your favorite DJ? What type of music do they play? Are you inspired to reach for your own success? Please comment below. Thank you for stopping by. Take Care and God Bless!!!

Prince: Master, Teacher, Preacher

What kind of music do you listen to? For me it's one word- Prince. His catalog stretches across all genres and affects all generations. His passion for performing drove him to technical excellence.  Prince controlled the sounds and settings of his recordings to produce quality product. His fans are loyal even beyond his untimely death in April 2016. Many articles were written at that time describing the loss and lessons learned. I've read many of them, and they lack the depth and breadth of the man and his artistic offerings. Let's get into it.

Master: Prince was a child prodigy. He learned and played all instruments on his first few albums. Most importantly,  he maintained all creative control of his product. Prince exhibited a winning formula that he replicated with the Minnesota Sound. Many artists came to him when it was time to reinvent themselves and revive their careers. With his skills, he has boosted those artist to another level, and they've reaped the benefits of his touch.

Teacher: Prince was a skilled businessman. He negotiated his contracts at age 17. When it no longer served him, he self-published and self-promoter his music. He was the first artist to sell his music online. He was the first artist to give his CD to concert goers. He was the first artist to co-brand his music with print media. He made much of his millions in concert sales. Artists are still following in his footsteps to maintain their livelihood and profitability.

Preacher: Prince spoke volumes in his songs. His lyrical genius displayed in the cadence and delivery of his provocative words. The use of double entendre made decifering the meanings of his verses engaging to his fans. Emboldened by this knowledge, fans felt included in his fiercely private world. Drawn in like a flock, Prince used his musicality to translate his message to the masses and gain their fandom. His legacy will live forever as even more followers are introduced to his published works.

I've loved Prince since 1978, the very beginning of his career. Cleveland is the home of Rock and Roll, but music is life there. Prince was welcomed with open arms and held in high esteem by many. His musicianship gave credence to his status as a mega superstar. So who are you a fan of? How can you relate better to them? Please share your comments below. Thanks for stopping by. Music: The Universal Language

Music is the universal language of mankind. This saying was coined by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and it still rings true today. In my travels, I have found that people gather and celebrate with music. More impressive, they can appreciate music in English even when they don't speak the language. We have the ability to emote with the song selection chosen and transfer energy between each other. I took a class from a powerful, internationally known speaker. She relayed a story about an engagement she had overseas. The crowd reacted to the songs she chose for her presentation, but didn't understand the presentation itself. There is a sense of comfort and community established with the harmonies, timbres, and textures of the melodies played. Often, the music brings up memories of times past. Many musicians are remixing their catalogs to create fresh perspectives on past successes. Researchers have found that music can evoke empathy of mankind towards each other. As I engage others, they respond in kind. I often project positivity, which draws people in. Rarely have I had issues expressing my thoughts when music and movement were involved. How has music translated for you? What are some nontraditional genres that you listen to? Are there any cultures you'd like to immerse yourself in? Please share your comments below. Music For Your Soul

So how important is music? It is mentioned many times in the Bible. Since the world was, music has been. We've gone through music for your mind and body, but what about your soul? The Spirit inside of you. How does music touch your soul? Music's original role was to praise God. Over time, it has morphed into what it is today. As a black woman, I relish in our history both in Africa and America. African music tells the tales of our ancestors.  An oral history of our people,  experiences, and cultures. It expressed our languages and our deep rooted connection to each other. Once stolen from our land, music adapted to the "New World". Songs became spiritual medicine for broken souls. Music was used to ease the burden of the slave labor and relentless captivity.  For those who had to escape, songs were used as roadmaps to freedom. Once freed, churches became social magnets. This gave rise to Gospel music. Black people needed to uplift their spirits through the adversity that challenged them. The call and respond style allowed audiences to participate and release their tensions in a socially responsibly way.  As the genre grew, lyrics were formed around popular melodies of the time. Today, music is categorized and segregated by the companies that produce them. However, musicians have blurred those lines to bring our society some semblance of unity. Have you noticed how traditional church hymns are becoming more secular? Have you noticed how Gospel music has crossed over to all music genres? Every religious service I've ever been to has music incorporated into it. Whether its instrumental, soloists, praise teams, choirs or pre-recorded tracks, music is a part of the ministry. I am a lover of music and I enjoy the creativity and artistry that musicians use to craft their product. I also find that music adds the soundtracks of our lives. So now that we've seen how music affects the mind, body and soul, how has it affected your life? What genre(s) do you listen to? Where does music take you to? What memories does it evoke for you? Please share your comments below. Thank you for stopping by. Stay safe and stay healthy.

Music For Your Body

I love music. Any kind of music. Cleveland's own O'Jays made these lyrics famous over their 50 year career. My favorite rapper, Rakim, stated that " to me, MC means Move the Crowd". Music blares during sporting events, exercise classes, lounges, nightclubs, schools and churches. Why is that? Well, dopamine is a hell of a drug. This "feel good" chemical is triggered when listening to music. Now we've looked at how music works with the mind, but how does it affect the body? Researchers have uncovered plenty of evidence for the benefits songs have on our bodily functions. Many doctors are musicians in their own right, and incorporate music into their therapy/recovery plans. Doctors have found that social isolation is a cardiac risk factor. Music helps by lowering blood pressure. The healing vibrations even stimulate the skin and the sensations felt. Elderly patients who get dance lessons have a better gait, dexterity and balance. They even found that work performance is better when completing tasks and tests.  Most of the studies centered on exercise ability and musical influences. Turns out that listening to music while exercising can push people further. Music affects the capacity and arousal of the muscles based on the speed and variance of the tempo. So no matter the genre of music you like (or don't like), do yourself a favor and add music to your daily routine. As we take a deeper dive into the effects of music, you will discover that the lyrics, melodies, and arrangements can truly transform your environment. During the pandemic, we need to keep our minds and bodies right. This will help ensure that we're living our best life. The purple life. So what kind of music do you listen to? How does it help you? Music For Your Mind

Did you catch it? The Verzuz between Patti Labelle and Gladys Knight? ***Spoiler Alert*** Did you fall out when Dionne Warwick came and joined them? It really did my heart good to see them together. Those career stories? Whew!!! As an added benefit, it eased my headache too. So I had to look into this further. Universities have been studying the effects of music on brain health, and the results are wide ranging. They all agree that music helps to release dopamine, which is known to modulate reward experiences. You are literally treating yourself whether you're singing or listening. Music helps with people who have dementia and those on the autism spectrum. There are no negative symptoms that come from the songs we enjoy, whether new or old. Scientists have proven that music with strong beats can encourage focus, activity and concentration. On the flip side, songs with slower rhythms reduce stress, increase relaxation and aids meditation. Some additional benefits include:

1. Pulls attention from negative stimuli
2. Increases the "feel good" chemical
3. Stimulates brainwaves
4. Improves your state of mind
5. Reduces the perception of pain

I love music. Growing up in Cleveland, music was and still is life. We treasure the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and our hometown heroes,  the O'Jays. Diving deeper into the research, music is a part of the fabric of our lives. It's no wonder that radio stations run 24/7/365, and online options are endless. Join me as we take the scenic route of our journey to living our best life. The purple life. Share your comments below. Thank you for stopping by. Stay safe and stay healthy.

World Suicide Prevention Day 2020

September 10th is World Suicide Prevention Day. With everything going on in the news and social media, there was virtually no mention of this very important annual event. I've lost many classmates to suicide, and I've always lamented over their deaths. For those who have lost loved ones, I can only imagine the range of emotions that you go through. In researching for my mindfulness blogposts, the goal is to focus your energy internally to be in the present moment. However, suicide prevention focuses on connecting with others. Watching human behavior and recognizing changes in them is key to recovery.

Crisis Resources

  • If you or someone you know is in an emergency, call 911 immediately.
  • If you are in crisis or are experiencing difficult or suicidal thoughts, call the National Suicide Hotline at 1-800-273 TALK (8255)
  • If you’re uncomfortable talking on the phone, you can also text NAMI to 741-741 to be connected to a free, trained crisis counselor on the Crisis Text Line.

Many organizations have listed resources online for symptom recognition. Therapists can assist with exploring the root causes for individuals who are not coping well with life or have expressed the desire to harm themselves. The key ingredient is you. Are you checking on family and friends? Is there someone who has been on your mind? Have you noticed subtle/drastic changes in those around you? Does your workplace have programs in place? Your school? Your church? Do you belong to a support circle or an accountability group? You can't save the world, but you can give someone the hope and strength to keep going. People can move forward and get through the situations that they think they can't overcome.

Individual Impact:

  • 75% of all people who die by suicide are male.
  • Although more women than men attempt suicide, men are nearly 4x more likely to die by suicide.
  • Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for people ages 10-34 and the 4th leading cause of death for people 35-54
  • The overall suicide rate in the U.S. has increased by 31% since 2001
  • 46% of people who die by suicide had a diagnosed mental health condition
  • While half of individuals who die by suicide have a diagnosed mental health condition, research shows that 90% experienced symptoms.

As we prepare to increase our mindfulness,  let's also incorporate mental health awareness into our schedules. It is shocking how thin the line is between the two. While we are in quarantine, let's strive to improve the quality of our lives and the lives around us.  Let's continue to press towards the mark of the high calling and live our best life. The purple life. Please share your comments below. Stay safe and stay healthy.

Clearing Out The Corners Of Your Mind

In the last part of our series, we concentrate on increasing mindfulness. We want to shift from brooding over our past to enjoying every moment of life. We lose our sense of being when retreating inside our heads. So the question becomes how do we break free. How do we clear the mind and tefocus. What practices should we incorporate into our schedules. Essentially, how do we empty out the bad thoughts and replace them with the good. Using these methods will assist with recentering your mind and body:

1. Breathe in and breathe out-feel the flow of your breath
2. Pay attention to your senses
3. Empty the mind- take some moments to be still
4. As soon as the mind wanders, bring it back to breath
5. Practice non-judgmental listening
6. Be aware of every daily activity
7. Go outdoors-walk around in nature
8. Forgive yourself for negative thoughts
9. Be grateful- say thank you
10. Go easy on yourself

You will find it easier to use these methods as you bring the stress and anxiety to the forefront. In time, you will see the progress you're making. We must do everything in our powerful to overcome the constant barrage of horrible news reports and social media. I am leaning on my religion now more than ever. I often find reading biblical verses helps to withdraw from my plans and draw closer to Him. As we continue on our journey, we will move forward to living our best life. The purple life.
