Veterans Day 2020

For all who served and sacrificed for this country,  I wish you a Happy Veterans Day.  This pandemic forced us to celebrate these heroes in a socially distant but still significant way. I don't write about military holidays, but this year hit different. This artistic rendition from the Miles Hyman Art Group gave me chills. The depiction of a serviceman in uniform forced to use a colored establishment struck a nerve. Black men and women have enlisted since slavery. Slave soldiers fought on both sides of the Civil War, often in domestic roles. The crazy thing to me is that soldiers were often jailed beaten lynched and killed by large white mobs enraged at their Service. Black soldiers fought battles overseas just to fight the same battles at home. The agony. The suffering. The struggle. The gains. The losses. It blows the mind. Even worse, the battle continues in 2020. Many minority recruits have died under mysterious circumstances with little fanfare or follow up. Yet, war continues. Our Armes Forces have served as the world's security force. Young men and women enlist to serve our country and preserve our freedom. I salute all who serve and those who retired from serving. Special thanks to the ancestors who endured the worst to make it better for those who followed in their footsteps. Many of my family and friends were soldiers. I respect all who stepped up to the call. Who are the veterans in your life? Care to share their story? Please leave your comments below.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!
