Nya Akoma: Black Love Day 2022
Happy Sunday Everyone. Its Janet Jackson and Colin Kaepernick Appreciation Day. Others watched the Big Football Game with the rap infused Halftime Show. I maintained my peaceful protest and rebuke of this racially deficient, billionaire run entity. I spent my day absorbed in self care. I love myself. I love learning. I love researching. I love social media as a way to share knowledge. Today was real special as I learned more about a little known holiday. Not Sidepiece Sunday. Not Entanglement Day. Not Galentine's Day. Not Valentine's Eve. February 13th is Black Love Day. This holiday was created in 1993 by Ayo Handy-Kendi, the founder of the nonprofit African-American Holiday Association (AAHA) {did you know there was such an organization? Me neither}. Actually, Black Love Day is the fourth nationally commemorated African-American holiday. The theme this year was “Finding Spiritual Joy Through Black Love”, with a focus on inspiring hope in a time of trauma, fear, and COVID burn-out. In addition to choosing joy over fear and viewing love as self-help within the Black community. It is a day of atonement, reconciliation and celebration. There are five principles to practice all day and are as follows:
1. Love for the Creator
2. Love for Self
3. Love for Family
4. Love for the Community
5. Love for the Black Race
With everything that has happened this year, it was refreshing to revisit a day dedicated to light, love, and positivity. No matter your race, creed or color, everyone can spread and share the love. It is the perfect weekend to spend today doing something to improve your life and those around you. Hopefully, we can build upon it throughout the rest of the year. As you proceed along life's journey, take the time to enjoy the view. Notice your surroundings and be present in the moment. If you want to get things done, do it alone. But if you want to enjoy the journey, gather your loved ones and go. If no one else tells you this today, know that I love you. How have you celebrated this love weekend? Go Red For Women 2022
Signs and Symptoms of Heart Attack
- Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of your chest. It lasts more than a few minutes or goes away and comes back.
- Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
- Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
- Other signs such as breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.
- As with men, women’s most common heart attack symptom is chest pain or discomfort.
Signs and Symptoms of Stroke
- Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
- Sudden trouble seeing or blurred vision in one or both eyes
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
- Sudden severe headache with no known cause
Women are somewhat more likely than men to experience some of the other common symptoms, particularly shortness of breath, nausea/vomiting and back or jaw pain. In 2020, I experienced the most common yet most shocking health scare in my life. Why am I blogging about this? Because I felt nothing. I blamed my tiredness on lack of sleep and pour my energy from cups of tea. If I hadn't gone to the ER, I shutter to think what may have happened. I thought I knew my body. WRONG!!! I'm on the right path as I intend to keep strong and get healthy. I use my story as a warning to you. Do you feel out of sorts? Are you stressed out? Overeating? Numb? Avoiding ugly situations? Biting your tongue? Holding it all in? Putting on a brave face while quietly dealing with your issues? As I researched my condition, I came across numerous sites offering health information. Do you know someone with a "broken heart"? Do you want to help stop the spread of this fateful disease? Educate yourself and lend your support. I suggest starting with the American Heat Association sponsored website at www.goredforwomen.org. From there, you can go to WebMD and other online resources to find the right path for you. I ask you to check in on your loved ones and ensure you all enjoy heart health. Join me on my journey back from the brink....moving toward living the best life. The purple life.
