Goodbye 2018

Oh the memories!!! 2018 went by so fast. I mean it feels like my 50th birthday was yesterday. So many milestones accomplished and so much still left to do. Have you been in this spot? Truly in the middle of everything and waiting for direction. I took some time away from blogging to truly focus on life. I've paired down my duties and responsibilities and given other peoples problems back to them. Are you carrying the burdens for those who dumped them on your plate? Have you gained anything by sacrificing yourself? Or are you still empty? I have one word for you......purge. Get rid of anything or anyone who no longer benefits you.  Concentrate your energy on elevating your life. As you rise, you'll lift others with you. Those who wish you well will still be by your side. Those who don't can watch from the sidelines.  You only have one chance at this thing called life. Why not live your best life? The purple life. How was your journey through 2018. Leave your comments below.  Thanks for stopping by. Take Care and God Bless!!!

Chopped

Do you have a problem letting go of useless things? How full is your basement? Attic? Garage? Storage unit? There are some things that have worn out their usefulness. Yet they haven't been recycled,  refurbished,  repurposed, or removed. What's the purpose of holding on to this rubbish? I recently chopped all my permed hair off to go natural. IT WAS SO LIBERATING!!!! No more rules. No more maintenance. No more restrictions.  Just naturally being myself living life. I've been tossing things out to minimalist proportions and I couldn't be happier. I'm reaching for my goals by getting rid of the weight that held me down. NO MORE EXCUSES!!! Its time to do the work to create the life you want. What better time than now to get rid of the junk. Declutter your life from the things that no longer serve you. Make your burden lighter and your future brighter. Let's continue on our journey to living the best life.  The purple life.  What have you cut from your life in 2018? Share your comments below. Happy Heavenly Birthday Mom

Today has been a day of reflection for me.  My Mom was born on this day many years ago. I won't tell what her age would have been if she were still alive, but I will say she touched many lives during her time on earth. Her warm smile, big brown eyes, and radiant spirit grabbed everyone she met. She taught many students and she was the center of our family. Mom was a warrior for Christ and spread the gospel wherever she went. Even in the nursing home during her later years, she ministered to the staff and her many visitors. I had the opportunity to share her with the world, yet keep the best of her with me. Mom encouraged my curiosity and stoked the flames of exploration to quench the questions. She allowed us to think for ourselves with gentle parental support and guidance.  Always a sophisticated woman with grace, style, and beauty. She laid the foundation for our love of God and our Christian principles.  Mom also gave us the capacity to love others as we love our own. I know she'd be proud of the blogs I've written and look forward to the content portrayed. I will keep it up as my journey is continuing. Happy Birthday Mom!!! Who is your influencer? Who motivates you to do better? How is your journey going? Share your comments below. Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Trickery

Have you ever had someone lie to your face? I mean they really trying to dupe you out of something or "catfish" you into believing something is real. Con artists will stop at nothing to obtain the goal of victimizing unsuspecting people. From get rich quick to vote for me and I will lobby your cause, trickery takes all forms. So how do you avoid becoming a target? By voicing your opinions.  Vote. Be seen. Be heard. Follow your dreams and heart's desires. Silence is associated with shame, guilt,  and regret.  Cons bank on this to keep their victims quiet.....and so do politicians.  Elected officials listen to those who donate, cast their ballots, and make it to town hall meetings.  Public servants form public policy based on what they hear the most about. As a society,  we must exercise our rights and use them for the greater good.  I affect change by using the opportunity to vote to make things better for those to come. We build these things for generations to come. Level up. Vibe higher. Teach these values to them so they'll  appreciate it. What good is living the purple life if you can't spread it over to those coming up behind you.  So what have you done thus far? Share your comments below. Early Birding

"That's so cliche" is what people will tell you. Yet, they understand what you're saying, and feel compelled to give their opinions (because its never just one). My particular favorite is "the early bird gets the worm". Part nature, part nurture,  this familiar phrase clarifies the need to prepare. Does life just happen to a lazy bird? Is it always bad luck for the angry bird? Whatever happened to the slow bird? You don't know because you figure its karma...comeuppance...got what they deserved.  However, the early bird gets things accomplished by doing things methodically and effortlessly with natural rhythm.  Luck= Opportunity + Preparation!!! So how is this unfolding in our lives today? Early voting is happening across this nation and we march to the polls. I on the other hand have voted already. Took me all of 15 minutes to ensure my voice was heard and my ballot was cast. Lucky break? NOPE!!!Proper planning. Being successful in any venture will require hard work, fact finding,  niche identification and supply of demand. Much like the quality of your life is a direct result of the education and experience of your youth. So the question becomes....are you an early bird? Or are you barely existing? So many of us are the latter which helps to explain some of the wealthiest 1% of the world. But we are waking up. We increase our understanding. And we continue to press for the mark of the high calling. Release yourself and allow your purpose to guide you to your best life. The purple life. So are you going to vote early? Share your comments thoughts and experiences below. Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Coming Together

So I wasn't the only one. Today's headlines were filled with survivor stories. Eyewitnesses to the evil of last week came forward with their observations.  It tugged at heart strings and wallet strings. Muslim communities raising funds for Jewish enclaves.  White communities supporting innocent victims while exposing heinous perpetrators. Women standing for their rights and fighting for justice.  We as a nation are coming together to make our society better. We are leveling up to our creed that all are created equal. This week's events have opened blinded eyes and muted mouths. Decency and civility are the order of the day that everyone is craving. Grassroot efforts are turning into  full fledged movements.  People are getting out to affect change. They aren't waiting for someone to come and save us. We are saving ourselves and future generations from making these same mistakes. More people are voting early as they want to ensure their voices are heard. Loud and clear. America will win and that's something to be proud of. How are you affecting change? Where did you cross the line? Or has your journey not reached that point? Share your comments below as we travel this road to our best life. The purple life. Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Racial Harmony

How do you define racial harmony? How do you explain the racial divide? Can we all just get along? I am shaken to my core with the news that has occurred in the past week.  Mailing pipe bombs to political foes, threatening asylum seekers before they arrive here, killing innocent people at grocery stores and houses of worship. Seemingly,  there was more coverage of a newscaster defending "blackface" for Halloween costumes. Where have we sunk to as a society? Where are the values we hold to be self evident? What will history say about this place and time? More importantly,  what are we going to do about this? I started in the only way I knew how.....I VOTED!!! My vote matters as my voice matters. The time has ended for sitting on the side and letting others decide our fate. Our political leaders have lost their way, and they're taking us with them. I refuse to be complicit in this. History may not record my name, but it will recognize the fact that my actions led to a shift in our society.  If we have true racial harmony,  inclusion, and diversity,  we will make this world a better place.  We will all be equal and we could all enjoy life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  I am charting a new course which allows us to keep running for the mark of the high calling.  Our journeys are colliding to fight the good fight of faith. We are going to free ourselves from this bondage and recreate the world around us.  Our beliefs. Our ethics. Our morals. Reestablished by our collective sense of right and wrong as we continue to strive to live our best life. The purple life.  How has this week's events affected you? What are you planning to do? Please share in the comments below.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Deliberations

The universe is reigning down on us....especially in Chicago.  Friday, Oct 6th, a guilty verdict was handed down in a murder by cop case. Saturday, Oct 7th, a SCOTUS candidate was voted in even with several serious sexual assault allegations against him. Sunday, Oct 8th, was the Annual marathon that brings worldwide participation and celebration.  Each of these events were planned out by opposing parties. Each of these events made history.  Each of these events involved deliberations.  Careful thought was given by the jury. Political leaders made several exchanges to obtain their vote for this "judge". Runners came in droves, determined that their team would be represented.  The world revolves around deliberations. We must get out all possible outcomes to get to the truth of the matter. We must evaluate all evidence before reconciling the matter. And we must move forward to gain the rewards attached to ending the situation that has been thoroughly vetted. I don't know what the future holds, but I do know who holds my future. I put my faith, trust, and hope in God as He navigates this thing called life.  I aspire to live the best life....the purple life. I strive to be in God's will as He has a plan for my life. I often move as He would have me move deliberately and with purpose. He has the vision,  and He's made it plain. Have you aligned your will with His? Have you noticed the difference in your results? In loving memory

Today is that day for me. Seven years ago my beloved mother died at 3am. My life was forever changed in that moment.  Every single night I awaken at 3am.....even when on vacation in different parts of the world. Every. Single. Night. For seven years. I've tried to explain it away but my heartbreak won't let me. She is my rock and the firm foundation she built is what I stand on. I thank God that He allowed me to be raised by this earth angel. Now she's in Heaven in God's army. Mom was a teacher so she encouraged the curious nature of mine. Reading was my escape and my fascination. She recognized these gifts and helped them flourish. I think about the things she taught, but mostly her love of Jesus.  He healed her. He saved her. And He saved a wretch like me. I'm going to live the best life possible because she expected nothing less. Mom even learned to love purple as much as I do. I am the Diva because I was raised by a Queen. So who motivates you? Who planted the seeds for you to grow? Are your works flourishing? Or will they be buried with you in the grave? I think on these things often which keeps me motivated.  How about you? Alma Mater

So where do we begin? I mean, when you want to make a change how do you start? And what's the end goal? Mom was a teacher so it always leads me back to school.  Sometimes we must put our noses to the grindstone.  Often, we can learn valuable lessons from those who are already doing it. Our alumni association has events twice yearly. I find this a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with my peers and make great connections in the process.  Last week was especially exciting as many new staff and directors were announced.  Having a chance to see their new direction gave me a chance to refocus mine....and save several thousands along the way. Are you using all your resources? Are there others who can mentor you to personal and professional success? Can they save you from making the mistakes they made? Everyone has a story to tell. So what's yours? Share in the comments below.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Revive us again

Is there any rest for the weary? Have you completely burned the wax off your candle? Does the mere thought of a task suck out all your energy? Well oftentimes our bodies are telling us to slow down. We run the rat race to complete exhaustion and then wonder how we got this way. Celebrities famously announce when they are taking a break, on vacation, etc. WHY? Because they recognize the value of rest towards their creativity and performance. God even mandated the seventh day to be a day to put down what labors us and worship Him. I had the chance to attend the Harvester's Revival this weekend and the Spirit of the Lord was present.  The underlying message was to renew your faith. Keep your faith strong so you can face each day. When you start to "feel the fire", quench it with your faith. If your faith gets low, then things that don't normally get to you find their way through. The words that they spoke restored a piece of my soul that I didn't recognize was lacking. My hope has been awakened and set on fire for God. My purpose in life is to spread His love throughout nations. I am squarely back on the right path, reaching towards the mark of the high calling. I am a child of God and I can only thrive in His presence. I will do His will and I will continue to walk in His ways. He has blessed us tremendously and has never left or forsaken us. We are on this journey together as we continue to aim towards living our best life. The purple life.  How far along are you on your journey? Have you taken a breath? Assess your situation? Silent moves

What are you working on? How is it going for you? Who is holding you accountable? Well this this the real question- are you ready for the change you're working towards? I must admit, I have been saying that I'm working on things. Speaking on it and obsessing about it.  In actuality,  my progress has been lacking. No one is holding me accountable because they're stuck in their own lives with their own difficulties.  And the well wishes are as dried up as the Sahara desert.  But I finally came to the realization that silent moves are the best. No one needs to know what you're doing unless they can help get you to the next level. It's a better testament when you've accomplished something rather than the struggle to get through it.  Everyone wants to win at something and tell that story. Hustle in silence and let your success scream out. Allow your tests to be your testimony. I know it will be worth it in the end because of all the stories proceeding mine. I'm certainly sharing my journey and I'm inviting you to come along.  Share your comments below.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Renaissance Woman

Are you the " Jill of all trades"? Have you dabbled in many things but perfected none? Join the crowd wink wink.  Then elevate yourself by engaging in something until you've mastered it. This past weekend I celebrated with the 13th Annual 79th Street Renaissance Festival and it was invigorating. Seeing the community come together in peace and harmony uplifted my spirit.  The singing, food, fun, games, entertainment, and information booths really covered the gamut of human interaction.  It helped me to refocus on the little things that matter in life. We are called for a purpose and we will seek it until we find it. Diversions come up and can temporarily derail our best efforts.  But God will use all these things for your good if you just trust him. I have made my decision and I continue to move forward.  I am pressing for the mark of the high calling. Doing what I love will replace my "gig". Until then, I will keep living the best life that I know. The purple life. Where are you at in your journey? Please share in your comments and let's embark on this next section of our lives. #JustDoIt

I am utterly amazed at the things people do to express their opinions. Protests have gone from ridiculous to sublime. Their impact is as wavering as their causes. The newest "hot" issue is the Nike ad featuring Colin Kaepernick.  People are so full of vitriol for this athlete that they are burning their property that bear this company image. To no one surprise, this move has triggered tremendous press and generated much business for Nike. It's sad to think in 2018 that people are most upset about his quiet, peaceful protest of the rampant violence against black and brown people. Rather than donating these clothes, their energy, and their efforts to their spoken beliefs.....they burn their own property. Breaking their nose to spite their face. Its moving backwards and causing folks a trip to the ER with burns on their bodies. Is this their passion? No, they are followers of a trend that can only dive into a deeper spiral. I choose to go high with this low level of thinking.  I support Colin Kaepernick and often post with the hashtag #TakeAKnee.  But now I'm adding to it #JustDoIt to continue to support him and corporate sponsors who buck trends and stand on the right side of history. I wonder what will be written about this social media episode. Until then, I will still support worthy causes and continue to reach my goal of living my best life. The purple life. What do you think? How do you feel? Leave your comments below. Thanks for stopping by. Take Care and God Bless!!!

Job shaming? Really?

Wow. Just when you think our world couldn't get more ugly, the online world erupted with a picture of Geoffrey Owen's. He's the former Cosby Show star now working at Trader Joe's.  People started being mean and petty about his current job status. Job shaming is a thing now. I was brought up with a Christian work ethic.  Whatever you do, be the best you can be. How can you fault this man for providing for his family. This is the secret shame that many people have. When the economy tanked, I saw people in Range Rovers at the Unemployment Office. News stories are abundant with college grads taking minimum wage jobs. Yet we "shame" those who share themselves online. Let's face it...
many trolls have nothing else to do but be shameful. If they were doing anything with their lives, they wouldn't be in yours. No one can force you to feel ashamed and you MUST reject the notion that the work you do is somehow "less than" everyone else.  Until you can do what you love, thrive where you are. Life isn't fair, but it balances out if you keep moving forward. BTW Geoffrey got an offer from Tyler Perry to appear on one of his shows. Who's winning now? Are you working toward your passion? Or your grave? Stay inspired and stay focused. Work to obtain the prize of the high calling.  Live your best life. The purple life.  How do you deal with the shame? The Labor Movement 2018

Happy Labor Day!!! I hope your holiday weekend is going well.  I've seen some family, ate some BBQ, and rested a bit. I guess this is what our ancestors wanted when this holiday was created. WRONG!!! History tells us that this day was created for working people.  Folks who combated greedy business owners who were dollar driven and ruthless robberbarrons. Sound familiar? At the turn of the 19th century,  our country came out of slavery and went into an industrial age. Laws were needed to ban child labor, limit the workday, and put in safety reforms.  Slowly but surely we are fighting the same thing from over 100 years ago. Its meaner, craftier, and more politicized fight between the haves and the have nots. We must put our differences aside to reach the common goal of liberty for all. We as a nation have yet to live up to this creed. But we're closer. And we can keep pushing for our inalienable rights. Our paths have crossed at this time to move forward....together....towards are best life. The purple life.  What lessons did you learn today? What does this holiday mean to you? How are you moving forward? Share your comments below.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

The prayers of the righteous

Do you know someone who can get a prayer through? I mean when your spirits are low, who can you run to? Seeing the outpouring of love at this weekend's high profile funerals made me reflect. Folks will say kind words and travels some miles to pay their "respects". But will you give me my flowers while I'm alive? Well, I went to my home church here in Cleveland. Everything is just like I remembered.  Our Pastor played a fiery organ while the choir sang. Many of the saints have gone on to be with the Lord. However,  those that remain pray for us continually. Today's sermon came from Act 16:25a "And at midnight, Paul and Silas prayed". Afterwards they had a prayer line where the people were anointed and uplifted. Chains were broken. People were set free. And I finally felt like I belonged. There's truly no place like home. My spirit was filled and my hope restored.  When was the last church service you attended? Did it make you go higher? Or did it hurt? How are you taking the message into your life. How will it make you better? Stoke your fire. Pursue your passion. Fill your gaps with your successes. Follow your heart. Pursue your passion. God will preserve and care for you. I saw it with my own eyes today....and I present it to you.  Join me on this journey toward living the best life. Saturday Night Lights

Are you a college sports fan? I mean do you really get into the game? I went to a Division III school so sports was second to your studies. But today I tried something new.  I came home to Cleveland and visited my family.  Dad and I watched the Ohio State  vs. Oregon State game. The joy of the fans, the sportscasters, the news media. There was a frenzy in the air. They even had commercials for the schools!!! Absolutely immersed myself in their world. It was fun and I'll probably get a chance to do it again. It doesn't hurt to stretch yourself.  Expand your mind. Share new experiences.  I encourage you to try something new this month. Do something out of the ordinary.  Spend some time doing something that your family, friends or loved ones participate in.  You might find the next level of living your best life. Growth Spurts

Have you noticed the subtle changes in your body? Your mind? Your heart? Do you feel like you've gained a lot but the scale hasn't moved? Are you wearing the weight of the world on your shoulders? These things happen as we get older. Much like babies, we go through growth spurts. When we change our routine,  we're learning new skills. We form new habits and we focus on maintaining the newness without breaking the old. Sometimes it feels like your head will explode. Sometimes you feel like you'll burst. Things may get tough, but you get tougher. Bodybuilders say that you must work and then rest to allow your muscles to expand and increase strength.  Everything you've been through has brought you to this point in your journey.  What are you going to do? Keep growing? Keep pushing? Keep it moving? Or keep silent and let the world go by? Join me as we make our way along the path to our best life.  The purple life.  Share your comments below. Happy 60th Birthday Michael Jackson

Happy Heavenly Birthday to the King of Pop. Today has been a day of reflection.  With the unfortunate deaths of Aretha Franklin and Senator John McCain, the news has been racked with death and destruction.  Often, music is the language that unites the world. No other artist has achieved the accolades like Michael Jackson.  His legions of fans have paid tribute on the Diamond Celebration. His music is still dominating the airwaves, and he is still one of the highest grossing  posthumous artists.  I am a loyal Prince fan, but there's no denying who wears the crown.  His popularity has been consistent despite the controversy surrounding his life and legal trials. There's no one who compares to his style, showmanship, or talents.  He was a humanitarian,  social activist, and an influencer who supported causes that were grave at that time.  It will be a long time before anyone can come close to filling his shoes.  So let's celebrate this moment as we pay our respects to the one and only King. How has Michael's music changed your purple life for the better? What impact did he make? How have you made that change after looking in that mirror? Please leave your comments below.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

It's a wrap!!!

Have you ever been "drafted"? I mean dragged into something that you KNEW you wanted no part of? Why do we keep doing this to ourselves? Wouldn't the world be a better place if we just said no? Imagine being free to be with no hang ups or setbacks. No cares. No responsibilities.  Just living our lives the way we want. Think about this....why do we get drafted? By others who should have said no in the beginning as well. They bite off more than they can chew then pass the leftovers to you(and me too). But we accept begrudgingly and commiserate the entire time. Sometimes it works, but usually it's a recipe for burnout and disaster.   Well, I've just put everyone on notice. I'M NOT TAKING IT ANYMORE!!!!! Life is too short, and I've got other things to do. And you do too. How many times have you put your dreams on the backburner to help someone else achieve theirs? Do you like propping others up? Do you want your time in the spotlight? Do you want to shake the chains that are binding you? Join me on this journey as we make better choices to lead our best lives. Retrain your brain

OMG!!! Just spent the entire day in a training class. As a salesperson, we go through the same classes every year.  But this class was different.  The instructor was a woman who had no shortage of tragic examples to share. The gentleman who taught last year was very sterile who only gave us "the facts". She gave us empathy,  emotion, and energy.  She took our minds to virtual reality using the "paint a picture " method. It took me to a whole new level and broadened my perspective. Truly, I can do it because she did it. That's the purpose of teaching what you know to enhance performance.  You must be "other centered" to help people elevate their own work to expand to the next level. Who has influenced you? Was it a stranger? Or was it someone you knew? Who have YOU influenced? Have they ever told you? Or did you notice your effect in their lives? This is my goal. My dream. My ambition. I want to inspire you by sharing my journey to living my best life. The purple life.  Let's connect with each other as we press for the mark of the high calling. Greener Pastures

Chicago in the summertime is a beautiful city. Often, I venture out to the lakefront or one of the many parks that are free. What I notice is how green the grass is always. It seems to stay consistent and appears to be lush in many gardens.  But I know a secret that I won't share here about some of the fertilization used. What I can say is that appearance isn't everything.  People generally look at others lawns, homes, cars, clothes, etc and make these judgements. They long for the greener pastures that they see. However, they wouldn't want to do the work involved to maintain the greenery.  I see the landscape crews working tirelessly to keep these parks for our enjoyment.  I see my neighbors constantly cleaning and clearing to maintain their lot. They know how oblivious I am as my lawn care is left to the professionals.  I've taken a completely different approach to my life in particular and living in general. I'm going to work smarter to pursue my goals and dreams. I've nurtured so many others that I know it's now my time. My turn to accomplish great things. My turn to impact the world. My turn to do what I love and not just pay bills. Are you feeling the same? Do you want a better life? How have you moved forward on your path? Life is a journey that should be traveled together.  Let's support each other as we reach our goals of living the best life. The purple life. Windy City Carnival 2018

How many cultural experiences have you had outside of the USA? I have traveled the world and nothing excites me more than Carnaval. I've been to Rio once and Trinidad and Tobago twice. Each time has been pure joy and amazement.  Well, I am happy to say the tradition is in Chicago. On Saturday, 8.18.18, the revelers were marching with their country's pride and reputation on the line. This was a family affair with costumes and face painting for the young and young at heart. I love mingling with people from across the globe as we exchange pleasantries and share stories. The festivities were vibrant and the costumes were bold, bright, and colorful. I encourage you to explore. Go outside of your comfort zone.  Taste and see what life has to offer. You might find your true calling and purpose in life. You may even level up to your best life. The purple life. Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

May the Queen of Soul rest in eternal peace

August 16, 2018 is a day that will live in infamy.  Our beloved Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin has passed. Although we were warned that her health was failing,  it was hard to fathom her not being with us anymore. She sang longer than my years on earth, and my life will never be the same. Aretha loved God and lived in the secular world. She shared her gift with us and lit the music scene on fire. Her hits and collaborations spanned all genres and garnered millions of fans. As a chubby black woman,  she was a role model for voluptuous women to hold their heads high.
Aretha had a spirit of a soldier and a fighter who was deep in the trenches of the Civil Rights Movement. The legacy and the accolades go on forever, but I couldn't let this day go by and not say anything. All hail the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin.  Thank you for giving us your presence and your gift of grace and distinction. May you rest in eternal peace. Knots

Have you ever had that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach? I mean that nawing ache or that tightly wound feeling? I get them all the time. Those little knots show up when I've pressured myself. Stressed myself out over things I rarely control. Mainly I worry about outcomes and their effects on me and my "brand". I try to make sure that if I give my word, I complete the task. Ever once in a while I bite off more than I can chew. Usually team efforts dwindle down to the dedicated few...and that's the stretch.  What do you do when your whole team is overwhelmed and your plans go awry? I am grateful to God because He always provides for His plan. There have been so many times that God had to step in and take over. Often the result is better than anything I previously planned. So much so, I often get drafted to do that much more. I'm going to start telling people to trust God and let Him handle it.  I'm not that special,  just unique and dedicated to Christ. Because of Him, I've been blessed to live my best life. The purple life.  The journey gets rough but we persist and survive.  What's your story? How has He pulled you through? What do you need Him to take over for you? Please share your comments below and let's support each other.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Switch up your routine

Are you caught up in a "routine "? Is your life "normal"? Do you wake up and get out to punch in and punch out? Do you commute the same route every day? Do you order the same thing from the same restaurants all the time? Have you ever ventured into something different? Or are you caught in the grips of a "routine "? I try my best to shake things up just to experience something new. And it hit me like a ton of bricks. Watching Instagram and a video popped up from one of my favorite bloggers. She was showing her facial routine WITH A TWIST!!! She was trying additional products to compliment her changing needs. I don't wear makeup but I was fascinated by how bold she was showing the entire world how she incorporated this change. Switched things up a bit. What have you done to enhance yourself? It doesn't have to be earth shaking. Just momentum shifting. Augment your routine to help maintain who you are and highlight your brand. A little pampering goes a long way in refreshing and rejuvenating your mind, body, and spirit. I have a summer and winter regimen but I'm also changing my lifestyle.  Let the creativity spawn your sense of purpose.  Stoke the fire that burns within. Go. Do. Be. Live your best life. The purple life.  Let me know how you are faring on your journey.  Share your comments below.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Dying of thirst

Have you ever been quenched? I mean truly moist and satiated? Or is there an imaginary hole that you must fill? When its over 90 degrees,  they tell you to stay hydrated. Keep cool at all costs. They even provide cooling centers in Chicago if you have nowhere to go. But what if you have a need that's overpowering? What if your desire is burning inside? What do you do? Well I had to step out of the discomfort zone. I just couldn't take it anymore. Rather than complain about the depth of my thirst, I found a way to sip the thing that I needed most. This blog is a step in the right direction. I'm in transition. Rather than the deep dive, I'm launching into the shallow end.  Slow and steady approach to all the changes I need to make in my life. I'm so analytical that the creative side has been seeping out. Well now is the time of release. And I know I'm not alone. How have you held back? How are you burning inside? Are you dying of thirst for your purpose? Or drowning in dreams unfulfilled? Either way, your release is coming. Leave a comment and let me know how you are handling it.  We must support each other on this journey.  Let's continue to reach for the mark of the high calling....living the best life. The purple life.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Let the cat out of the bag

Have you ever held a secret that was interesting? Were you sworn to take it to the grave? Or don't tell anyone? How long did you hold onto it? Well, I just released one about myself. I was playing myself small and it was subconsciously messing with me.  I'm very humble but I do have some accomplishments.  Well a week's worth of coffee and it compelled me to speak out about my volunteer work.  So often, we play down our greatness and become self deprecating.  However,  if we don't value ourselves, no one else will. Don't brag or boast. Just state the facts. Be proud of who you are and let your light shine while living your best life. Keep reaching for the mark of the high calling.  Fulfill your purpose.  And share your journey to living the purple life.  I'm certainly sharing mine. Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Step back

How do you deal with your impulses? Do you indulge? Let it fly/ride? Go off? Cut loose? Let them have it? Give them a piece if your mind? That moment of satisfaction can lead to a multitude of regrets. Don't be in your feelings.  Clear your head and think rationally. Take the time to evaluate the situation. Don't give up or give in. It does get better. Are you in God's way? Step back. He will work it out in your favor......if you trust him. I believe His word and I will stand on his promises. I hope you can feel how I felt traveling through this thing called life.  The purple life. Leave a message and let me know how you fare. Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!!

OVERCOMING DEFINING LIMITATIONS

So what did your Pastor preach about Sunday? Our scripture came from Mark 9: 14-29, and Dr. Brazier titled the sermon "Overcoming Defining Limitations ". I won't review the entire sermon (see it for yourself at www.acog-chicago.org). I will say that he addressed those pastors who met with the current occupant of the White House. He also addressed the systemic racism rearing its ugly head at this moment in time. It was so motivating to see that this type of politicking in the pews won't be tolerated by true Christians who live by the tenants of the Bible. Navigating the rough waters of life can't be done alone, aimlessly wandering.  You must be steady,  constant motion until you've finished the journey. When you see charlatans who have sold themselves and their parishioners,  its breaks your heart.  To see our Pastor take a stand on the side of justice,  truly uplifted my soul. Our church supports our Pastor,  and our actions will speak louder than our words. Time will tell.....and there will be a cloud of witnesses. I am ready to continue my activism on this community level as I hope to lead others to their best life. The purple life is to be modeled and exemplified.  Who's watching you? Who's life are you impacting? Have you participated in any civic activities? Has your voice been heard? Take the leap. Stand for something. Use your power. Let's share these experiences by commenting below. Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

#IPROMISE

Finally!!!! Something positive is dominating the internet!!!! LeBron James has opened a joint venture public school called IPROMISE. The curriculum is STEM focused and provides 240 students a stimulating learning experience.  What I find exceptional is that there are support services for parents too. LeBron always talks about being a kid from Akron, and the struggle he went through.  He promised himself that if he made it, he would give back. And he has. Bigly. He's funded several companies, scholarships, and charitable organizations....and he's only 33 years old. As a born and raised Clevelander, I couldn't be more proud. We come from the same region with similar goals and dreams. He's fulfilling his.  I'm working on mine. What were your childhood dreams? What did you want to be when you grew up? Are you doing that now? Have you fulfilled the purpose of your life? Or are you stuck? As long as you have breath, you can reach your goals. Hold on to your dreams, and do the work to make them come to fruition. We are the change! We can make the difference! Are you ready to try and succeed? Or hide and fail? Or do nothing and die slowly inside? I choose to continue to press for the mark of my high calling. There's so much in store if we just believe.  Let's support each other in our journey. Leave a comment and let me know where you are in your path to success.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Happy Half Birthday to Me

Do you ever take the time to celebrate you? I mean, to treat yourself for your existence in this world. Do you feel you're worthy to be celebrated? Most people are so humble and self deprecating, they rarely shine the light on themselves.  What's amazing is that we weren't born this way. Have you noticed small children have no problem expecting praise for what they've done.  It's never much, but they seek encouragement from their family members. Toddlers always proclaim their birthday and will tell everyone they run into. Somewhere in life, we lost the spark that would be unstoppable,  bold, and free to be. Kids focus on self and self care.  They need and request nurturing.  Who nurtures you? Who takes care of you? Who are you close to? If you have difficulty answering these questions,  you need to revisit your goals and dreams. Adjust your priorities to include more opportunities to enjoy yourself.  It's not hasty or boastful.  Its self healing and affirming. So I encourage you to celebrate the small thing in life. It will help you find your way to your best life. The purple life.  Thank you for stopping by and sharing.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Big Willie Style

Humility is hard. I mean being humble is nice in theory, but does it really work? Does it seem that the loud mouthed braggards get the attention while the honest schmucks get the shaft? I mean people are born into privilege and stay there...even making it to the White House. Meanwhile others broke their backs to build this country only to be oppressed, ostracized and obliterated.  Sure, there are examples of people who have risen above this statistic, but how? I'm looking at Will Smith. He found success young, lost it, regained it, expanded his territory, and reinvented himself into the distinguished gentleman and thought leader. One look at his Instagram will convince you too. He was the Fresh Prince...then he went Big Wiilie Style. He worked hard, honed his craft, and networked his way to superstardom.  He wasn't bragging, he was promoting. He presented his best self and now he's living his best life. He's lifted his whole family up and continues to lift the careers of others. And he's a humanitarian to boot. What can we learn from Will Smith? Follow your dream. Do what you love. Pursue all options. Hone your craft. Build your support team. Be prepared for success and don't stop until you obtain it. Measure your steps as you go through the process but press towards the mark of the high calling.  Know that God blessed you with everything you need to succeed. It's time for us to recognize that fact and pursue our passion. I've colored my passion purple as this is royal, regal, and worthy of crowning my Queendom. Are you ready to move on your purpose and passion? Things can only get better from here. Let's continue our journey together to live our best life. The purple life. Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Get 'er done

When your get up and go just got up and went.....on a Monday. Today was rough from the start. Got an early morning phone call that added tasks to an already jam packed day. But I got it done. Mind you, I'm not a redneck.  Far from it. But I got it done. The feeling of accomplishment and finishing a four month process just to get what you thought you needed. Then, you immediately think of the next goal. Stripped down and starting over. Its human nature.  People need the connection...the thrill of it all. We must conquer things. It's so fulfilling.  We all have to do lists. Line by line. Item by item. As we knock things off, we celebrate....but don't stop.  We realize it's one way to build the foundation of our lives. Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.  That's how you build muscle, strength and endurance. Life isn't a race, it's a journey.  Explore the scenic route. Take the time to be present in the moment. Savor the flavor of the good life. The purple life. What are your to do lists? What are looking forward to finishing? How are you going to celebrate? Share the good news. Write your comments below. Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Happy Heavenly Birthday Bishop Brazier

I'm not sure that there are enough words to describe the gratitude I have for the Sainted Bishop Arthur M. Brazier. Today would have been his 97th birthday, and it serves as a reminder of how blessed we were because of him. So many people in Chicago are familiar with him and his story. Every where I go, I meet people who smile and share their Bishop story. When I was planning my move to Chicago,  I asked my Pastor about which church to attend.  His response was that he heard about this big church and their Pastor who's famous. I literally came with bright eyes and big dreams. Bishop Brazier took this naive suburban college grad and grew her into the sophisticated Christian lady that you see today. The power of his preaching. The warmth of his spirit coming across the pulpit. The awesomeness of his passion and compassion for his congregation. The respect and reverence he earned for his years of civil rights activism. The grace. The mercy. The favor. Bishop Brazier was a History Maker. An honorable and prudent man who was at the helm of the "Miracle on 63rd Street". His legacy will outlive us all, and the Arthur M. Brazier Foundation works every day to continue his work. I'm glad to have been a parishioner and I live a blessed life because of him.  So I remember the man on the day of his birth. Happy Heavenly Birthday Bishop Brazier!!! You showed us the true meaning of living our best life in Jesus. Thank you!!! Please feel free to leave your well wishes, memories,  and comments.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Connectivity

Oh the power of networking!!! Its been my honor to volunteer at my church. I've met so many incredible people who truly have so much to share with the world. Today was no exception.  EPIC ENCOUNTERS is a program I created to help individuals meet with entities informally to encourage economic growth. Our session with the US Small Business Administration was lively, informative, and transparent. Everyone was able to interact and get all of their questions answered, along with making new contacts. Afterwards,  we had a chance to meet and unpack everything.  I relish these times where learning is inspired and people are closer to fulfilling their dreams. A friend just sent me a pre-order link for her book, and another friend just ruled over her weeklong pop up shop for her designer brand. Being surrounded by excellence makes you want to do more. To strive for greatness.  To live your best life. What motivates you? What keeps you going? What are you living for? How do you stay positive? Are you moving forward? Or are you stuck in a rut? Well as I've shared previously, you can come up from anything.  Health scares. Money problems.  Disappointments. You can rise above anything with God's help. Let Him strengthen you and keep you in perfect peace. He will clear your mind and allow you to live the purple life.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Hyperglycemia-the Silent Killer

Hello. My name is Monica, and I'm a diabetic.  I just experienced the most common yet most shocking health scare in my life. My blood sugar tested at 571 when going to a routine checkup with my doctor.  She really was at a loss for words as I was transferred to her from the nurse practitioner.  After a lengthy dialogue,  I drove myself to the nearest emergency room.  After being in the ER for four hours, my sugars dropped to the point where I felt safe to go home. Why am I blogging about this? Because I felt nothing. I  blamed my tiredness on lack of sleep and pour my energy from cups of tea. If I hadn't had the appointment,  I shutter to think what may have happened.  I have been a diabetic for over 20 years,  and I thought I  knew my body. WRONG!!! I'm on the right path as I intend to keep strong and get healthy.  I use my story as a warning to you. Do you feel out of sorts? Are you stressed out? Overeating? Numb? Avoiding ugly situations? Biting your tongue? Holding it all in? Putting on a brave face while quietly dealing with your issues? As I  researched my condition,  I came across Divabetic, a nonprofit group founded in memory of Luther Vandross.  As wonderful and legendary a singer he was, he dealt with this disease alone. Luther died from this silent killer and all the complications it brings. Do you know someone with " a touch of sugar"? Do you want to help stop the spread of this fateful disease? Educate yourself and lend your support.  I suggest starting with the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org. From there, you can go to WebMD and other online resources to find the right path for you. I ask you to join me on my journey back from the brink....moving toward living the best life. The purple life.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Tiny bubbles

Viva la France!!! Its Bastille Day and I salute all who celebrate this holiday. Today was filled with reflections of things past and looking towards the future.  This week I took time to hang out with my friends and associates over drinks. Champagne and bubbly wines bring out the best in people. You get a chance to see the real adult that you're dealing with.  I'm not an alcoholic but I will indulge when I'm out with friends. Summer is meant to be enjoyed with those who matter most to you. I had the best time in Paris and have managed to hold on to those feelings here in Chicago. Every laugh, every smile, every word of wisdom is a tiny bubble in my life. As I sip and share with friends we support each other. We uphold each other. We reinforce the fabric of our interwoven existence. Isn't that what life is about? Shouldn't we be sharing the lives we live? As I reflected on my journey,  I'm glad to know I don't face this world alone. With God guiding the way, the blessings abound and follow me with every person I meet. How do you enjoy the tiny bubbles in your life? Post a comment and share your thoughts. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. C'est la vie! Au revoir!

Must be the music

Have you ever ventured out alone? I mean just showed up to an event that you were interested in? Well it's time for the Taste of Chicago and they've added more music. Specifically,  they've added Summerdance and I got a chance to enjoy their themes.  The Steppers set was crazy good. But the Queens of House put on a show that was inclusive of everyone. So many gay/lesbian couples, parents with kids, tourists all clamoring to get on the dancefloor.  In harmony.  Sharing an evening under the stars while getting a great workout. I had so many conversations with complete strangers who bonded with me and treated me fair.  I believe in having fun. Variety is the spice of life and we should have life more abundantly.  Make your day a great day....it will turn your life around. Definitely a part of the party and it must be incorporated in all aspects.  I hope you will join me on this journey.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Testing testing 1-2-3

Can you hear me now? I mean, can you access the content that I'm blogging about? Its amazing to have so many platforms and so much technology.  What's astonishing is the fact that I know very little of it.  I'm not the only one. Many families don't have computers, televisions, or electricity. News is still passed by word of mouth rather than researching facts. How else can you explain the deep divisions in our country. It's hard to have a civil conversation with family and friends before politics, entertainment,  or other news stories are interjected.  Rumors spread faster than truth as people race to be first......and not wait for the truth. Why can't we all just get along? Because the restraints have come off so that selfishness is the rule and not the exception.  People want what they think belongs to them, and deny your rights to pursue the same goals. We need empathy!!! We need compassion!!! We need to be able to see that our fellow men's achievements don't negate our own. And we need to know that there is plenty for all to still achieve. Can you feel me now? Can you see where I'm coming from? CAN YOU DIG IT??? Let's move away from petty foolishness and strive for the mark of our high calling. When you want to get things done, do it yourself.  When you need to travel far, do it together. You will be better for the journey. Let's get moving to the next level until we reach the level of contentment that showcases our best life. The purple life.  La vie pourpre. Au revoir.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Rescue Me

They're out!!! They're safe!!! What a wondrous miracle!!! Watching the Thai soccer team rescue was a stealthy operation. Battling the elements, the fears, the lack of oxygen and most couldn't swim. But God!!! Those parents went down in prayer. The whole area went into prayer. The world was watching moment by moment with anticipation.  Their faith did not waiver under these circumstances. Those parents stood strong on the power of God to ensure the safe return of their boys. Just imagine if our community embraced each other like that. Prayed for everyone. Held each other up when spirits were down.  Picture all the children separated at the border reunited with their families. Think about the children not being gunned down in the streets, or at home with their parents.  All lives matter, right? You would send a message of hope, joy, peace, and happiness. Isn't that what we were put on this earth to do? Think about it. Don't you want someone to rescue you when you made a bad choice? Ignored warning signs? Down to your last breath? Let's go back to the work that God has given us. We yearn to live a purposed life. The best life. The purple life. Continue to chat with me as we move along this journey.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Church shouldn't hurt

New words for today: church hurt. Oftentimes,  this hurt is a deep seeded stigma that rears its ugly head when sore spots are exposed. Perhaps you shared a secret that served as gossip fodder. Maybe you got in an inappropriate relationship and suffered abuse or neglect.  Sometimes,  you're the outsider trying to break in. You work on a team, but you do the heavy lifting. A viral video displayed a gospel artist "sounding off" on the industry, holding folks accountable for her career and the choices she made. Cursing, smoking, and drinking are her signature tricks and she publicly displays this behavior.  But why such venom? Such vitriol? It's easy to see how hurt she is. Are you acting up in a similar fashion? Hurt people hurt people. Its perpetually in motion, drawing people in so they can slide down that slope. Don't stoop to their level. Be the better person. When they go low, you go high. Maintain who you are and always seek higher ground.  When you don't sink, it will force others to lift themselves up. Be the catalyst.  Be the change. Level up to the purple life.  Join me on the journey as we move on up a little higher. Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Choose ye this day

Have you ever let someone go? I mean you thought you were friends...perhaps even lovers. Then something happens that shakes you to your core. You must decide if it's you or them. Why are these choices are hard? Sometimes it gets verbal. It could get physical.  But you stay or delay. You debate in your mind. You ask others for their opinions. But you finally decide to let go. I ask you...why is it so hard? Why don't you trust yourself? Why do you protect others and sacrifice yourself? Do you really need " a sign"? Is your heart involved? You really need to figure it out.  You need to protect you at all costs. Don't allow someone to manipulate you.  Take your power back! Take control of the situation! CHOOSE YE THIS DAY!!! Don't be a victim. Be a VICTOR!!!  It gets better. The pain fades over time. You make room for better to come into your life. And that's a very important way to live you best life. The purple life. What are you doing to live your best life? How do you care for yourself.  It's a journey...a process. Have you made the choice? Are you ok? Let's continue our journey together. Let's share and comment and help each other. Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Freedom!

Me want free!!! Freedom from the hassle.  Freedom from the headache. Freedom from the heartache. Life isn't peaches and cream, and we shouldn't think of it this way. But does it need to be this hard? Why cant we all get along? Technically there's enough to go around. The rich get richer and we fight over the scraps. We complain,  we march, we protest. One young lady climbed the Statue of Liberty to raise awareness of the growing immigration problem. Everything is so tense and everyone is going to the extremes. But the real question is....do we need to carry this heavy load? It's so draining to carry the weight of the world. You wind up hurting yourself in the long run. We must pool our resources and work smarter. Together we can stop the insanity and live together. Peace and harmony can be obtained. Freedom is our right and our choice.  Choose ye this day that you burdens be stripped down to the joy you crave. Be your best. Be purple. Live the purple life.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Don't take it personal

Just one of those days that a girl goes through.  I mean, everything that could go wrong did. Angry customers,  crazy coworkers, lack of customer service and relationships fractured.  I smiled through it all though my heart was broken. I grew up a little bit.  It hard to do the adulting thing. You just want to scream, stomp your feet, and throw a tantrum.  But you cant. And you shouldn't. Take some time to reevaluate the situation. Is there a clear path? Have you weighed the options? Can you compromise? Can you stand up to the disappointment? Or will you crack under pressure? You only get one chance at life. People have died wishing they had the opportunity you do. People are hospitalized clinging to hope. People need just a little help to make it through the day.  Don't take it personal when things don't go your way.  Realize this is part of the refinement.  When it's all said and done, you'll come forth as pure gold. Royalty. Purple life goals. Join me in this journey as we strive toward the mark of the high calling.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Rightsizing

Have you ever been drafted to do something you didn't want to do? Do folks "volunteer " you for anything and everything? Do folks tell you what you "should" be doing? Well then you already know how sticky this situation is.  I often see this meme about wanting to say no but you get into a mess that you could have avoided by saying no. I used to think it was an honor. Now I know it's a drain and often it's the dirty work. I have made the moves and stood my ground.  Say it with me...NO MORE PEOPLE PLEASING!!! Trust me. Your life will be sweeter and more fulfilled when you prioritize and delegate.  Sometimes when you do too much, you block someone else's blessing.  Take a breath and ponder the points. Do some critical thinking.  Evaluate the benefits and risks associated with your decision. I'm always available for suggestions but I make sure its worth it. Many organizations strategically realign their people, technology,  locations, and resources. Have you rightsized your life? How do you determine what your next move will be? Or do you let others control your life? We need to help each other. Let's be accountable to ourselves and our companions.  Thank you for sharing your journey with me. Take Care and God Bless!!!

Summer Sauna

Oh my God!!! This weekend was a scorcher!!! I mean three days of oppressive heat with no relief in sight. We've had bouts of sunshine and rain and it's still 79 degrees.  Much better than 98 but still sweltering. There were backyard parties,  swimming pools,  political protests, and holiday parades held. Everyone had an agenda even if cut short due to the weather. I am sweating it out as I type this to you. I wanted to get the sauna experience of sweating my weight away. Its a process like everything else. But I am learning and growing and enjoying myself along the way.   Have you done anything so exhausting yet liberating at the same time? Did it making a lasting impact? Or a wonderful memory? Would you do it again? I'll just say that I'm a winter baby and snow is my friend. I'm thankful for the experience and the opportunity to  do better. Thanks you for joining me on my journey towards living the best life. The purple life.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Families Belong Together

Today was a day of protest. Hundreds of thousands marched across the country protesting family separations at the border. Today was a bond of the human race. Its incredible to me how anyone felt this policy would have a positive result. This alone is sickening.  What's worse is that children are MISSING!!! There are over 2,000 children who have been LOST....possibly given to human trafficking. The outrage has gone across party lines and has politicians scrambling for a cover up. The sad reality is that it may take years before this fiasco is resolved. I'm glad the American people have had enough. We are the laughingstock of the international community and our values as a country have fallen into the abyss. I implore you to mark the date November 8, 2018. We the people will have another chance to right the wrongs this country is going through. We are definitely on a journey to return to the best life. The purple life.  Let's continue this journey together as we continue to strive for the mark. Thanks for sharing and stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless.

#Enough

Deja Vu......how horrible you are. Reading about today's shooting in Annapolis brought back bad memories.  You go to school, work, (insert place here) going about you normal routine and then there's a shooting.  Our country is becoming numb to this recurring headline. Chicago is in the spotlight for the reckless abandon of the value of life. For a lone gunman to come through and shoot people out of an enraged Harris the bottom of deplorable. Our children are not safe at school or on their way to school. Our country hasn't always been this way. Where is the blood lost coming from? Why does no one care about the carnage of these dead bodies? My question is why aren't there common sense gun laws? No other major country has these issues. We police the world but can't protect our citizens???!!! Preposterous!!! I am thankful that there has risen a generation that says #enough. They are taking the world by storm demanding answers to these tough questions. I join them as I flashback to the shooting in Chicago 's Financial District a few years back. A voice came over the intercom asking us to shelter in place. Cell phones bust with news reports from outside our building. S.W.A.T Teams in the lobby...guns and rifles drawn.  Police and news helicopters hovering overhead.  I never want to go through that again, and my heart goes out to those families affected. I can only imagine the depth of emotions that everyone must have right now. I know we can do more. I'm just waiting for others to join me. Are you ready? I am. Join me on this journey as we aspire to live the best life. The Purple Life.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Gotta Have House Music

Love is a universal language.  And so is dancing. I must admit, I'm a disco queen. I love all club music and in particular house music. The bass moves you, the beat grooves you. And you just move. Fast or slow. Partnered up, grouping out, or going solo. There no judgement there as we're at the mercy of the DJ who keeps the party going. Watching a clip of the dance party held in Downtown Chicago  truly gave me pause. They were old and young people there. From ghostly pale to dark chocolate,  everyone was dancing to the same grooves.   People were dancing, recording, taking selfies, all kinds of things...but all on one accord. For the brief moments we had forgotten about race, creed, or color and focused on music. It looked like pure fun and great excitement. I revel in the fact that someday we will be free to be kind to each other.  Love one another. Live our lives to the fullest. Are you happy with the way your life is going? Do you need to change now? Join me as we walk this journey to see the best things in life. The purple life. Thank you for sharing.  Take Care and God Bless !!!!!

Our lives hang in the balance

Have you ever had one of those days? I mean lose-your-head-if-not-attached says? Well this one was by far the worst one. Left my things at home, got on wrong train, and can't blame anyone but me. God protects babies and fools.....you know the rest. But what are we doing to each other? I mean killings in Chicago are on the rise. Political unrest is sweeping the country. Social justice is elusive to most but swift to expose racism,  sexism, and classism.  This  self righteousness is reaching a frenzied pitch. Each side pointing fingers at the other. Our conversations are very guarded and sometimes filled with hatred. There's even been talk of a civil war. We can't afford to go back that far. We can afford to move forward carrying this bitterness and vitriol. We as a nation must come to the table and talk to each other. Contemplate and negotiate.  Our lives hang in the balance and we need to secure our futures. I don't believe I'm living the best life now. I feel safe in saying that you aren't either. So let's join forces and create our narrative and purpose. We only want to live the good life. The purple life. Thank you for sharing your journey with me. Take Care and God Bless!!!

This is America???!!!

I've had all I can stand, I cant stand no more. I am fed up with the unfortunate policies of the current administration. Our country is being pilfered by a "billionaire " xenophobic monster who doesn't care about anything but himself. The American People have been silent for too long. There's only one thing they understand and that's power. Money cant buy everything,  and some money is better than none at all. However,  these robberbarons have sunk to a new low. Creating and enforcing policies to escape the law and due process is exactly the steps taken in Nazi Germany. Separating children 3their mothers is frightening,  but oddly American. Since the slave trade, trail of tears, and internment camps , Americans have become more aware of the racial divide that no one is trying to repair. The world is watching and they are not pleased. God is watching and His will shall come to pass.   How will this ugly episode be viewed by history? Probably as one of the darkest moments in the country.  Please let you light shine. Let your voices be heard . #RememberInNovember
Definitely stand in your truth and live your power. You matter. Your thoughts matters.
Too many lives are at stake to sit on the side and let this continue. As we all strive to live the best life, we must never forget our most vulnerable.  Let's finish this chapter and proceed to the rest of our collective lives. The purple life . Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless !!!

Summer Madness

Summer solstice? Pagan rituals? The possibilities are endless.  However,  it meant more to me this year. The break in the weather was real and noticeable in Chicago. We went from 60 degrees to 80 degrees TODAY!!! The warmth of the sun melted the aches and pains in my bones. I wasn't weary, I was energized.  I certainly understand the "snow birds" who seek the sunny destinations when life gets cold. People seek each other out to congregate and celebrate. Just this month, we've had Prince Day, Father's Day, and our church anniversary.  People are bonding over their taste and style.....in an effort to get through this thing called life.  Often,  it the shared moments we treasure most. Why? Because that is the idea behind life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  But must you chase happy? Is it all created for a social media post? Or are you in a moment? Only you can answer this question.  As for me, I enjoy living my best life. I invite you on this journey as we discover our best selves and our best life. The purple life.  Thanks for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Successful Rest

Is there any rest for the weary? I surely hope so. Today was an off day due to my series of doctors appointments. As I found myself running from place to place, I was calm and collected. I managed to get by and meet new people along the way.  I needed to unwind and unpack all the current events today. I needed to refresh an refocus on my goals, dreams, and desires.  Have you ever run out of gas? The key is to do something every day. Make your moves silently and let success be your microphone. Say what you mean, and mean what you say. Small successes will motivate you to stay the course. You can rest once everything is done. Striving for the prize of the high calling. Heading towards your best life. The purple life. Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

It's Selfie Day

Selfie Day? I mean they create holidays for any reason. Not that I mind because I love taking pictures.  Usually I am being posed by whomever the photographer is in my family capturing a moment in time. Today's culture is so full of instant gratification that most can't wait for someone to take a photo. We must do it ourselves. I mean, if you want it done right....right? Or are you like me who takes several shots before selecting "the one". Do we really want to live our lives this way? Can we only rely on ourselves? Or can we delegate and trust it will work out? Often I find that it so much longer when you have no help. Easier to be overwhelmed.  Easier to burn out. We all want to be seen and appreciated for who we are. We all want the acknowledgment of our peers and loved ones. But are we isolating ourselves in the process? Can we be free to just be? Are we in the moment? Or fretting about the next. My advice to you is to keep living. Keep pushing. Keep thriving not just surviving. Keep pursuing your goals and dreams. Don't stop until you achieve it all or die trying.  Whatever you do, don't give up. Don't throw in the towel. You can make it if you try. Your life has a beginning and an ending,  but it's the middle that's most important. Let's continue our journey together.  Let's keep reaching for the best life. The purple life.  Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

God is full of surprises

Have you ever felt "the move of the Spirit" at your church? I must admit that God is omnipresent so He's always there. Sometimes He shows up and shows out. The week before Father's Day we had Elder Eric Williams preaching our Second Service.  It was an experience to behold. He gave his greetings to the members and proceeded to his sermon. He talked about faith. He talked about living through some of our mistakes and trusting God in all things. Elder Williams spoke with a fire that took over the Sanctuary.  By the time all was said and done, we had prayed for one another. I felt the weight of the world fall off my shoulders and the peace of God in my heart. Has anything moved you so positively? Have you used that event to inspire others? If not, now is a great time to start. I invite you to look at this service for yourself on www.acog-chicago.com and let me know what you think. We're all on this journey together striving to be the best we can be. Thank you for stopping by. Take Care and God Bless!!!

Juneteenth

Is history repeating itself? Today is Juneteenth, the day the last slaves were freed in Galveston Texas. We call into remembrance that the Emancipation Proclamation was signed January 1, 1863. These slaves didn't receive news of their freedom for two and a half years. Can you imagine that happening now. In this day and age of a 24 hour news reel. We get images of turmoil and strife within minutes on the World Wide Web. And we see rival factions debating politics while their constituents suffer. Unfortunately this is becoming "the norm". Conquerors seek profits over people and will destroy anything in their way. They hoard this wealth while the multitudes fight over the scraps. Group mentality fosters to make one feel superior over others to justify their ethical neglect and exploitive actions. Sadly, things appear to be worse and there is no hope left.....or so others would want you to think. What do you feel when you see these images? Can you empathize with those uninformed slaves? Do you have any compassion left? Or are you only looking out for you and yours? God blessed us with a moral compass to guide us through dark times. Our ancestors used these thoughts and prayers until freedom came. What will history say about us? Let's embrace the past and move forward. Faith without works is naught. And He covers all in his love, grace, and mercy. We want to maintain the high road and live our best life. The purple life.  Share this journey with me as reach the mark of the high calling. Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless.

Clean Slate

Happy Sunday!!! As I sit here and contemplate everything that happened this weekend, I am in awe. Benny Hinn came to Chicago for one of his Healing Services.  It had been YEARS since I'd seen him, but I felt compelled to go....both nights. I must admit you hear so many skeptics critics and naysayers that pull down the tenants of any ministry.  But I saw up close and personal how necessary these events are.  Every walk of humanity made it inside the host church.  People laughed cried hugged and prayed for each other. It was kumbaya all over the building.  Everyone was on one accord as we waited to hear what he had to say. Most poignant was the verse about putting off the old and becoming new. Benny Hinn remarked that this meant you were reclaimed by God and those sins were wiped away.  YOU HAVE A CLEAN SLATE!!! Don't let anyone try to drag you back to what you were. Let them know that person is dead and you've been redeemed by Jesus to Himself. Shake off the labels that we tend to pick up. Be your own best friend.  Rise up to the new you and strive to stay there. It's a process....a journey well worth taking. What steps have you made on your path? How is your journey going? Are you living your best life, the purple life? Reach out to me. Share your comments. Thank you for stopping by.  Take Care and God Bless!!!

Reaching Out To Me

Happy Saturday!!! I hope your weekend is going well. I actually had a chance to hang out with an estranged friend. We have gone back and forth since we met, but we just can't leave each other alone. Usually I am giving good advice that he's not ready to hear or accept.  What's funnier is that when he tells people his problems, they offer different variations of the same advice.  Rather than admit he's wrong,  he'll stop speaking to you. Do you have anyone like this in your life? What makes these connections so hard to break? I must say, he can walk me back from "the ledge" with his candid conversation. Also, he's so very handy when things break down and need fixing. There's a balance of give and take that we share, and a history of experiences that we've been through. Not everyone in his life puts up with the drama or welcomes him back into their midst. What advice do you offer the person who has a gruff exterior and marshmallow interior? I bank on the truth. It's a hard pill to swallow but is always the best path. After all of the recent suicides in the news, there are so many more suffering in silence.  I always offer a listening ear with no judgement passed. My phone is almost always on,  and my heart is open to what you have to say. That's part of the journey to the best life, the purple life. Reach out to me. Let me know how your journey is going. Thank you for sharing. Take Care and God Bless!!!

Milestones

Have you ever accomplished a goal that you set for yourself? Obtained the dream house? Car? Marriage? How did that make you feel? How long did that feeling last? I  just got back from Paris as a celebration of my 50th birthday....in January.  I celebrate birthdays 24/7/365. I  always loved numbers and I relished fact that I got a year older. And then there are the milestones.  You know 7, 10, 13, 16, 18, 21, 25, then in multiples of 5. I truly honor these benchmarks or goals of getting older. I feel like this is the second half of my life. The urgency is there. I love my life, but I can do better. My musical idol Prince gave it all in his 58 years on this earth. My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ turned the world upside down in 33 years. I can only imagine how many of our heroes mark the use of their time. They maximize each moment and make it work for themselves. Are you doing the same? What is working for you? What are you working for? Is it your best? Or is it complicated? Living the purple life is striving to reach your goals, your dreams, your purpose, your happiness.  After receiving the news that another famous person committed suicide,  I vowed to activate my faith. Activate my plans. Activate my steps to move towards my goals. Join me in this journey as we explore our best lives. The purple life. La vie pourpre.  Au revoir.

Happy 60th Birthday Prince

It's Prince Day!!! 60 years ago, the love of my life was born. The world didn't know it yet, but this musical genius came into this thing called life and took it by the horns. Prince did things his way. Sometimes good and sometimes not so much, but every experience taught him at a young age to depend upon himself.  Thank God his talent was recognized early as he gave us his soul in song. It hard to imagine that his first single "Soft and Wet" was released forty years ago today. That's the song I fell in love with and loved him ever since. As an awkward  ten year old, I gravitated to his unmistakable falsetto and vibrant beats that reached out of the radio and grabbed my heart. The boldness of the music. His fresh take on classic songs. His inventive style,  sound, and swagger commanded attention and respect.  Prince drew fans from across the globe with his love of God and his musical talent. He gave us his all and every performance was one to remember. I had seen him several times in concert, but it always felt like a private show. Prince loved us through his music and we the fans will never forget him. His Royal Badness continues to reign after his death two years ago. He left us filled with his love and his catalogs and his vaults of treasured materials that will outlive us all. Prince was a champion for artistic rights and forward progression. He was also a  humanitarian and silent benefactor to many fellow artists and individuals alike. Prince moved in silence but his good deeds speak volumes. As does his life. As does his legacy.  It doesn't get much purpler than this. Are you living your best life? Your purple life? What will people say about you when you're gone? Will they remember the good? Or will you be a distant memory? I challenge you to change your narrative. There's still time to rewrite your story. Its certainly worth the effort to make the rest of your life the best of your life. The purple life. La vie pourpre.  Au revoir mon cherie.

D-Day

Remembering our heroes on this fateful day.  On June 6 1944, Allied forces stormed Normandy to turn the Nazi forces around. This was the beginning of the end for WWII. The true definition of D-Day is the day on which an important operation is to begin or a change to take effect. As I look at the news today and the world we live in, today is definitely a day of change.  Let's honor and care for our veterans by covering their expenses before, during,  and after they have given their lives to serve our country.  Let's respectfully interact with each other as we go through this thing called life. Went to Bible Study where the preacher asked a series of questions.  Do you witness to people? Or do you just invite them to church? Have you opened your mouth to talk about Jesus? Or do you expect us to do the work? BOOM!!! It hit me like a ton of bricks. People are so use to giving their tithes and passing the buck to the church to handle all societal obligations. We must do better!!! We can't dump our patriotism on our veterans and then turn our backs once the conflicts are over. We must be consistent in our lives and in theirs. I definitely have a whole new perspective on living my best life, my purple life. Join me on this journey as we continue to reach for better. Do better. Be better. Live better. La vie pourpre.  Au revoir.

Until we see each other again

Is there something or someone who is missing from your life? Did you choose that option or did life just "happen". I spent the past week with family and friends to reconnect and refresh myself.  I was so busy thinking about upcoming birthdays and other to-dos when my timeline flooded with negative news. A famous designer committed suicide.  A sports team uninvited to the White House. Our current administration has a person at the helm who does not know or care about what they are doing. All of this required fact checking as there is so much "fake news" swirling around us. My heart goes out to every family that is dealing with the loss of a loved one from their own hands. Oftentimes when famous people die, there's an investigation and their last 15 minutes of fame is used. However, there are so many voices silenced by the cares of this world....or lack thereof. I refuse to be quiet about this growing epidemic.  I want you to live and not die. I want you to flourish and not fail. Free confidential help is provided by the National Suicide Prevention Hotline
800.273.8255 or by visiting their website
https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/ and they're open 24/7/365. Know that I care about you and your wellbeing.  I want you to live the best life, the purple life, in all its glory. Don't leave this world without knowing Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. As I move along on this journey I want you to join me. Reach out to me with your questions and comments as we reach our goals together.  That's truly living the purple life. Even though I am back in the US, I'll still sign off in french. La vie pourpre.  Au revoir.

Diner en Blanc Paris 2018

Bonjour!!! I experienced the most magnificent event this year. Diner en Blanc celebrated 30 years of existence in Paris on June 3rd. This was my first time and it was a belated birthday gift from my sister. There were over 20,000 people all dressed in white for a soiree of epic proportions.  Everyone brings their own food, wine, table settings, and shares in the communal meal.  Costumes are optional, but highly encouraged. Many people travel annually for this event, and I got a chance to engage most of them. I took so many photos and people loved asking where I came in from. What makes Diner en Blanc so successful is the hospitality. I had the distinct pleasure of being with the Brooklyn table.  Today is our Table Leader's birthday and we celebrated her and our theme "Wakanda Forever". People came from across the park to view our setup, get their faces painted, share some wine, and inquire about our theme. There were bands, djs, and the Eiffel Tower in full display. Parisians were proud to show us their city, song, food, and history.  They put their pride on full display,  showing their best selves for the occasion.  I look forward to our evening in Chicago and across the USA.  Have you ever been so proud? Have you always shown your best? Join me along this journey to living the purple life.  La vie pourpre. Au revoir.

Joie de Vivre

Bonjour!!! Paris...in the springtime...on a Saturday.  Absolutely breathtaking.  I had the opportunity to slow down and take it all in. I thoroughly enjoyed my "birthday" meal as the chocolate croissant was diva approved and divinely crafted for me. I choose to celebrate my born day 24/7/365 with any and all family and friends.  We shopped, toured, and picked up our tables for tomorrow. We headed out for an event and made new friends with new memories that we'll share. Life is that good right now...just like I said it would be yesterday. Can you imagine speaking things into existence? I mean putting good thoughts in the universe and having them come back to you? That's the purple life mindset. Make it happen.  Choose to be better than you were yesterday. As you know better, do better. Be the best you that you can be. Authenticity is a rare find and is worth its weight in gold. People are drawn to the light within that shines around you. Are you free to share it? Or do you need to find it? Either way, it's the journey that counts. Join me as we discover the ways to increase the royal values of our purple life. La vie pourpre. Au revoir.

Viva La France

Bonjour!!! I greet you today from Paris, France.  I traveled from Chicago to Cleveland  to Iceland to France... thanks to WOW Air. This was a purple trip on a purple plane to explore the best that purple has to offer. Visited some family and friends along the way but meeting more travelers in the City of Lights.  I have dined sumptuously at many of the sidewalk cafes Paris is known for. What struck me the most was the pace that everyone was going.....SLOW!!! I mean people were moving leisurely, taking time to enjoy the moment.  All seats in the cafes face the sidewalks and the passersby.  Seats are placed to sit close to/ next to your guest. And you are served to allow for enjoyment and conversation.  I look at everyone's face and I see contentment. I can only imagine what Parisians are going through as it does not show. Can we as Americans say this at this time? At this point in history? Well I am going to start over TODAY!!! No better time than RIGHT NOW!!! Declare this with me...Today is the beginning of the best days of my life. Join me on this journey to living the Purple Life. La vie pourpre!!! Au revoir!!!

Take care of yourself

May Day!!! May Day!!!

I took some time away from blogging to "work". I was so happy traveling and writing and living.....then "work" happened. I got a "job" a "gig" a "9 to 5". In a matter of months, I put my purple life on hold to be responsible and get a stable, steady, sales "job". Looking back over these months, I am more determined to bring my best self forward. I've jumped full throttle into "reclaiming my time" and making the sacrifices necessary to suceed. So what inspired this change? Prince๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ and his music๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽธ๐ŸŽถ being "honored" on that show. No one will ever fill his shoes, and this display of " talent" only proves that His Royal Badness is irreplaceable. In his 57 years of life, he brought us joy, love, peace, and acceptance. He gave us his all, and left it all on stage. And then he died. He left us. His time on earth is done. But we the "Purple Army" stand strong in making sure that Prince will never be forgotten. He lived his best self, and did it his way. Can you say the same? Or are you like me? At a "job" that is not reflective of your best self or your purple life. Are you hiding your crown so someone else shines? Have you been so selfless that you're less of yourself? Do you look at your life and wonder "How did I get here?" Are you your worst critic? The time is NOW to stop that negativity. Grab the wheel and get your life back on track. This didn't happen overnight, but it ends TODAY!!! I invite you to join me on this journey. Thank you for sharing and stopping by. Take Care and God Bless!!!
