The Beloved Community: MLK Day 2022
Happy Holiday Monday Everyone! January 17, 2022, will be celebrated as the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. The pandemic has forced many celebrations to scale down and socially distance. However, virtual services were broadcast clearly without interference. I particularly enjoyed the remembrances at The King Center. The multicultural, multigenerational celebration crossed religious and political aisles. It was very inclusive and inspiring. Normally, it is a day of reflection and service. They pull many clips from the 50's and 60's as a sort of history lesson. What have we learned in the past couple of generations? Apparently not much. Many of the freedoms gained from marches, protests, and civil disobedience are being erased in legal battles and privileged proceedings. People cited the many changes throughout the decades. But look at the social media clips and headlines. They come straight from those days gone by. My favorite DJ mixed historic MLK speeches with contemporary tracks to create a diversified experience for the audience. As those audio and videotapes are played, the storyline has not changed in almost 60 years. We had a black President who did twice as much and faced object racism and hatred. Meanwhile we now enable politics to reverse the gains made during the Civil Rights Era of these United States. Dr. King had a mantra of equality and justice that he was assassinated for. I want to continue the fight that has gone from overt to covert to overt 2.0. I want this generation to rise up against the evil that has sprung forth and send it back to the depths of hell. I want Black lives to matter and the bloodshed to end. I want to see growth and expansion of the industries and entrepreneurial sectors that are inclusive. I want to see the world at peace. They thought they killed the dreams of our ancestors with the murder and reduction of Dr King to a "dreamer" from the 60's. Let's show the "establishment" what the activists of 2022 can do to motivate change and spark innovation. What are you prepared to do? What part of history do you want to eradicate? What's worth maintaining? Where can we advance as a society? How do you plan to fulfill the Hope's and dreams of those generations gone by? Please share your comments below. Thank you for reading this article and supporting this blogspace. Stay safe, warm, masked and healthy. Take Care and God Bless!!!
